YOU are the one who is incorrect. Researchers have previously shown that a person’s IQ is highly influenced by genetic factors, and have even identified certain genes that play a role. They’ve also shown that performance in school has genetic factors. But it’s been unclear whether the same genes that influence IQ also influence grades and test scores. -proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, London, England. |
Genes don't just influence your IQ—they determine how well you do in school http://news.sciencemag.org/biology/2014/10/genes-dont-just-influence-your-iq-they-determine-how-well-you-do-school |
Yes, genes contribute to general ability. So does environment. Your statement that IQ is "largely" genetic is not correct. Specifically, in childhood, which is what you are talking about, heritability of IQ is less than .5 and varies with SES. Look it up. |
Actually it has been found in many studies to be as high as .8, with 1.0 being a fully inherited trait. There are many studies that have been done on the inheritability of IQ and they have ranged widely but, most recently the scientific community has reached a general consensus that IQ is largely inherited. Not sure why you are in such denial. Smart, well educated people usually have smart well educated kids. It's one of the reasons that poverty is a vicious cycle. |
That discussion got way out of topic.
Let's go back...... ![]() |
I got 99%, on ssat, don't know how to prove it other than saying it is my word

Well done. Now use your gift wisely. |
Don’t follow this thread... |
Well gee can I get in . Lol some moms in this group are pretty snarky lol. I mean if you can pay for expensive prep courses and have multiple children taking test you should expect scores like that. Here’s a story little black boy spanked a lot of scores out there sliding in with two 99’s i and 98 overall. Here’s the thing he did it with free sites online . No prep courses crack ssat Ivy khan etc all free ! Free lunch program kid doing the work with few resources !! Be nice ladies all the kids work hard not us ! |
This is simply not true. Kids in NW DC do not attend more prestigious undergraduate schools than students in areas within a two-three hour drive of NWDC. |
And which ones do you love the most? |
They are not telling you the truth. Your kid did great. |
This thread is from 2015. Please let it die. |
My son had a 98% SSAT and a 98% HSPT. He only applied to one HS and it wasn’t a big 3 ![]() |
