How common is a 99th percentile (overall) SSAT score in the metropolitan DC area?
Anonymous
As common as 1 out of 100 persons taking the test!

Yes, that is the case nationally, but there seems to be more than that in this area.

Um, no, the nature of the definition of "percentile" means that being in the 99th percentile CANNOT be "very common." Really.

It's not common in the national sample that the test is normed against. It could be more or less common in smaller populations, like the DC area. DC students are different than students in Mississippi who are different than students in the suburbs of Minneapolis.

I had two score 98th % -- accepted everywhere. GL.

That is a high score!

If the "writing sample" is as good as the score, your child is in great shape...

I am really lost about this... almost every parent that I meet in my school is bragging that their kids got between 90 and 99% score ...so looks very weird to me... my son got 96 ..

Looks weird to me, too. My DC got 99th.
Anonymous
Mine too, but we decided to stay in public, so one less 99th to compete against.

If you go by DCUM posters EXTREMELY COMMON since everyone that posts says their child scored in the 99th percentile.
Anonymous
it seems probable that it is more common than perhaps in some other areas of the country/ world but not really sure the point of this thread? if your child has 99 I would assume you can consider the SSAT box checked and move on to agonizing about whether the other components of the application also meet the nebulous "good enough" standard.

It is not common, even in this area. I have children with those scores, and children without.

If it will give you some hope in these darkest days, my DC who earned that score now attends H/P/S/Y (only one). There, the gauntlet is thrown, the pressure is on.
