Why do you drive to the bus stop?

Anonymous
My kids did. I must admit the bus stop was only a block away and I could see it from my front door. However, there were times I had to drive them and their friends because the bus did not show.

Unless maybe the weather was REALLY bad, a kid had a major disability, or getting to the bus stop required crossing an extremely busy road without a crossing guard or crosswalk/walk signal --the latter of which was very rare as bus routes were designed so that kids could easily walk to their stops --nobody's parents accompanied them to the bus stop or waited with them until the bus came past kindergarten (if that) when I was in school in the 80s & 90s.

In fact, it would have been TOTALLY EMBARRASSING for parents to accompany you to school or the bus stop, when I was in school in the 70s and 80s.

It just doesn't make sense for me to walk to the school, walk back, and then get in my car to drive back past the school on my way to work.

Could your kid walk to school with neighbors? My school is two block away and I'm considering that esp when he's about 8 or so.

Yes it's completely normal, you were just trying to turn it into something odd.

When I was a teen there was a kid on my bus route whose mom would drive her kid down the driveway. It was so ridiculous. Now granted it was a long driveway but the time spent getting in the car to driving he could have sprinted down there. Or actually been waiting at the bus stop like the rest of us....

Mind your own business.

I don't have time to read the whole thread, but I will sum it up for you (not sure why you even need to crowd-source this question). These are in no particular order

1. Parent is too damn lazy to walk.
2. Parent needs to get to work and doesn't have time to walk back home to get car.
3. Kid is whiny and it is easier to drive kid than listen to them whine about walking.
4. Parent wants to see kid get on bus and wants to do it from the comfort of their car.
5. Bad behavior of other kids at bus stop.

that is our case, it's a .8 mile distance and we need to to cross an extremely busy street with no crossing guard or cross guard.. my child will never walk to the bus stop because of this (add that there are blind spots on the busy street so people gun it - more danger).

I drive to the bus stop, which is 1.5 blocks away, for several reasons: I may still be in my pj's, it's cold and I don't want to freeze while waiting, I have my toddler with me.

Completely normal... If you're a lazy fatty, or a 60 year old parent of an elementary school student.

It amazes me how quickly helicopter parenting is the norm. In the 80's and 90's your parents waited at the bus so and picked you up the first couple of times and then you were on your own.

Why does your child not walk to the bus stop by herself/himself? I am asking sincerely.

He is 8 and I can't see the bus stop from my home. I like to see him actually get on the bus.

We do this. Main reason is our child could ride a bus but it would require being up 30 minutes earlier than necessary if we drive her. Sleep is important, so we drive her.
