My friend gave me complimentary hotel soap for Christmas.

Fancy soap is fancy soap. It doesn't matter the source.

I agree. I was at a four seasons and they had l'occitane toiletries. I'd take them any time!

I think it's odd, but OP, I think you responded very graciously by thanking her and laughing it off. And I'm some one who used to collect hotel soaps as a weird hobby. Back in the old days, the airlines even had their own soaps -- back when there were more than 3 airlines, and they each had their own pretty packages....
And don't get me started on the disappearance of those neat little matchbooks that restaurants used to give out ... I've never smoked and I've got like 300 of those. I love to look back at them and remember the meal!

I do give hotel soaps as gifts, not Christmas gifts (I don't do Christmas gifts) but just because. When I travel for my work, I accumulate hundreds of l'occitane and Burberry soaps. I am happily put it in one little bag (around twenty soaps) and give it to my girlfriends when we meet for coffee or to my maid. I am using it at home a lot too. They are very nice soaps, much better than dove or other pharmacy soaps.
