what age did you let your daughter start wearing strapless tops and dresses?

There’s strapless and there’s skanky. Big difference. Strapless is totally fine in my opinion. Many wedding dresses are strapless even.

It's like the first wildebeest going in the crocodile infested river. And that makes the crossing safer for those who follow.

Interesting where your mind went on this one.

This might be a good question for the tweens / teens forum. My girls are 8 and 12 and I’m not sure I’d care if they wanted to wear something strapless, but I’m not sure either will want to any time soon.

My mom always said she and my dad chose to pick their battles for things that affected safety / health and, for me, I don’t think this falls in that category.

That isn't the case.

The easy bait are the true "innocents" whose parents have taught them nothing and have been given no body autonomy. The idea of saying that they are uncomfortable to an adult would never occur to them.

I was so surprised i didnt even know how to react but i told her to change immediately and we would have talk later. "Her friend gave it to her", i know she just asked if she could have it because she knows i would never buy one for her. The thing is its quite casual, nothing provocative and it would be nice for a warm day. Now Im honestly torn whether or not i should let her keep it. What do you say?

OP it really depends on the rest of the outfit and your daughter's figure.

If the rest of the outfit is "conservative", no belly hanging out and breasts are not overflowing and are she's wearing a strapless bra - then I think it's fine.

On the other hand, if she wears it with hoochie shorts and her breasts and belly are coming out - then nope!

This definitely. It’s the styling that makes the outfit. If your top is strapless and tight it will look a lot better with shorts that are looser and make sure everything is the right size.

I don’t know how we kept those tube tops we used to wear at 12 years old upright. Most of us were completely flat chested. Halter tops are more secure.

That’s exactly right. Strapless tops imply that the wearer has the breasts to hold the top up, which is why they are considered sexy. A flat-chested 12 year old wearing a strapless top implies that she wants to be considered sexy. If she and her parents are fine with that, great, but context matters—strapless tops can only be properly worn by someone with developed breasts.

Stfu - we aren’t raising little sluts.

I see no minimum age for strapless rompers and strapless sundresses, but do believe when it come to tube tops and formal dresses, No earlier than high school.

They are still in style. I don’t know how I used to wear one being so flat chested but we all wore them.

It’s a summer style of a top. Take the sex out of it. The middle schoolers aren’t thinking that.
