| It simply isn't true that there is a "majority negative perception" of WL -- or maybe the hundreds of people I know and talk to just aren't part of that majority. The Arlington magazine article was very interesting. I personally don't care about things like Ivy admits (knowing there are LOTS of great schools out there) -- and every class is different, so some years one school will "outperform" another -- but for 2014 class: W/L had 9 Ivy admits; Yorktown had 4. W/L had 3 kids admitted to Duke; Ytown had 0 (though 9 applied). Ytown got one kid into Stanford; WL had none. UVA: WL 41, Ytown 35. William and Mary: WL 34, Ytown 25. The point here is that this debate is just silly. They are both great schools -- just depends what you are looking for. |
I am an expert in new construction pricing and yorktown homes are not cheaper. You don't know what you are talking about. You trade proximity to DC for a larger lots and nicer neighborhoods in yorktown zones. |
Do you really think that an Arlington Resident or Arlington Magazine will say anything negative about one of the three public schools? Please you are just silly. |
Exactly. I was confused about this as well. Thanks for setting it straight. |
| 12:19 of course not. That's not the point. The magazine simply listed how many kids applied to colleges and how many got in. This year, it appears W/L had more admits to schools people on this forum seem to carry about. Just some data. |

Let's get one thing straight. My house in W-L district would be MUCH cheaper if located in YHS district. It costs much more per square footage in Lyon Village, Lyon Park, Ashton Heights, Maywood, etc. The $2 million houses over here would be $1.3-1.4 in YHS/22207. There is a 'location' premium over here. I could have more bedroom and much bigger lot for the price paid here.
Not complaining. Just pointing out the stupidity that it costs more for YHS.

Interesting article: http://www.arlingtonmagazine.com/September-October-2014/Under-Pressure/?cparticle=1&siarticle=0
Quite honestly, I didn't think either Yorktown or W-L came off particularly well in this piece. |
From another thread in the Real Estate forum. Do you think that someone not interested in the "location" of this house would have paid over $1M for this tired, small rambler? https://www.redfin.com/VA/Arlington/4764-33rd-St-N-22207/home/11230118 Perhaps folks wouldn't be so gleeful when they point out W&L's perceived deficits if its supporters weren't so shrill? |
Empty lots have sold for over 1 million over here. There is a $1.2 million knock down. I am a realtor in the area. |
This is true for CCH as well. |
who are these many people? I haven't met any IRL. Just one (or two?) Yorktown boosters on DCUM. |
Proving people will pay good money to live where THEY want to live and send their kids to school where THEY want to send them. One doesn't need to trash a school to justify THEIR real estate investment. |
LOL - now you just sound bitter. Why do you care so much?! Let it go! Let it go... |
Not bitter. Just sick of the cray-cray. |

WL is considered 3rd tier just get over it and move on with your life.
