Is a Redskins-obsessed teacher ok?

Anonymous
I know people like the PP in Chevy Chase... they are so politically correct that they suck the fun out of everything they touch or see.... have your opinion but don't kill the fun for the kids. This is why teachers who have been around for a long time dislike parents, any attempt at humour get squashed.

I wouldn't be ok with that for 4 reasons.
1. The racist background of the team
2. The redskins suck
3. We're eagles fans and I do not wish for my kids to song a division rivals song, which they probably wouldn't wanna do either
4.its not appropriate to have the teachers dad come to class to lead the kids on a song...not that that would happen often, but even 3-4 times a season is too much.

Besides dog fights are better than football.

Wait, what's the humorous part? Besides promising that the teacher's father will come in when the team wins, which I agree is funny, since that's not going to happen a lot.

What do you mean besides... that is the humorous part.

If you can't find the humour in getting excited and talking smack about football as a diversion for kids then you never will.

My kids are die hard Ravens fans, they have had a great time defending their home team with all the Redskins teams. When the teachers dad comes in to sing that song it will probably be one of the most entertaining and exciting days for those kids. To have an adult and no less the father of their teacher come in, that is little kid awesome!

Lighten up, have a little fun.

Michael Vick isn't with the Eagles. He is the Jets QB. Try to keep up.

Bull crap. No way this happened.

So you just became a eagles fan this year. I guess Riley cooper's rant about beating up ever n@@@er should be your first order of business. Glass houses!

I don't think OP is objecting to the teacher being a fan of the Washington (actually Landover) football team in her private life. OP is objecting to the prominent displays of team paraphernalia IN THE CLASSROOM and to the teacher's father coming to sing the team song IN CLASS..

No. The objection is to the offensive nature of the term "redskins" and lines like "braves on the warpath" and such.

But the kids have no choice. And a young elementary kid doesn't have the confidence to stick up for his beliefs (much less know what they are). They want to please their teachers. I don't think it's ok to have in school. Elsewhere is fine, but definitely not public school.

This whole area is a bunch of liberal politically-correct freaks. We had a 5th grade teacher who did fantasy football with the kids for math. Earning/adding scores, looking at percentages, etc.. They had so much fun and my DD was watching football Halfway thru week 2 one annoying parent complained it is like gambling and doesn't want her child involved anymore. So the whole thing got cancelled. Word spread (by the mom's gossiping mouth) who's child "ruined" it and it was not fun for the kid.

OP, don't be THAT mom. Can't you see how uptight and annoying you are. Keep your comments to yourself on this.

oops, she was watching football, adding scores, looking at ratios etc.... It was a lot of fun on Sundays to work on it and watch the math work without a complaint.

Put your kids in private, preferably with a life scope as narrow and particular as your own.
And try to enjoy the holiday times, you might be the type to split a nerve then.
And avoid trick or treating, your kids or you might blow a gasket.
And be sure to explain everything, and I mean everything, to your kids in your PC, wishy-washy, kumbaya, never form a judgment on anything unless it's doormat-ready tone.
Finally, make sure your kids never leave the country and encounter real people with real interests, opinions and passion for actual things, not kumbaya-land.
