Is a Redskins-obsessed teacher ok?

As a Dallas fan, I would find it offensive.

As a neutral observer, you don't have bigger issues to worry about??

I'd be happy to come in during the history class and explain EXACTLY what the various Native American Indian tribes do with all the $billions of tax dollars they receive annually. And how much of it is squandered away with nothing to show for it. Talk about a sad, missed opportunity at political reparations.

Shorter PP: it's ok to disrespect American Indians, because they don't deserve respect anyway.

My son had a teacher who was a huge Ravens fan. He had posters up, talked about it all the time. The teacher had so much personality and energy. He turned out to be great.

And BTW, PP's, from the National Congress of American Indians:

The Redskins have lost their copyright protection on their name so they will now change the name because they have lost the highly lucrative merchandizing rights attached to the name. Within two years the name will be changed. Snyder is just spinning it so it appears the name change occurs as a result of overwhelming public demand in order to not disenfranchise the thousands of fans who remain passionate about retain the Redskins name.

However, in the meantime give the teacher a break. He/she is just trying to connect with the kids in a "let's all root for the home team" kind of way.

Let the adults sort out the name issue. Don't put this on the kids. At some point down the road, the name will change, and the teacher will get new posters and shirts and such.

A few years ago very few people cared about this issue. A few years from now it will be over. Don't drag the teacher and kids into an issue that they don't control. Teacher wants to root for local sports team. That team has a name. Let it go.

Last year, my DS had a teacher that like the Redskins. We were so upset, we transferred schools. Indeed, we will never set foot in this area again until the name has changed.

The team has appealed and the last appeal took many years to be decided, so don't hold your breath. I like the "don't put this on the kids" advice" the best so far.

He would say "Ohhhh that's soo ribald" if the story was at all a romance. He loved vocabulary words , if someone was chewing gym he would implore him to "stop masticating" ( a play on masterbating) lol.

He was one of the best English teachers I ever had.

However, I don't think 'masticating' is a play on 'masterbating'.. 'to masticate' simply means 'to chew'.

Tell her to sing "Hell to the Redskins."

Pretty sure a bunch of teenagers would notice that the word "masticating" sounds similar to "masterbating" and find that similarity hilarious, regardless of the actual definition of the word.

Obsessed? OP you are a drama queen. And to say the name is unarguably racist is incorrect. If there were no argument, there would be no controversy. Maybe in your mind. They are the local football team with tons of fans and support. Until the name is changed there is nothing wrong or inappropriate with people supporting the local football team with it's actual name. If people feel differently, they don't have to, but it doesn't make sense to place that on others. Just talk to your kid.

I think this is a really interesting question. I also agree that the name "Redskins" is offensive. But I don't have a problem with the general concept of a teacher supporting a local sports team. I would have no problem if the posters etc. were for the Buffalo Bills or the Ravens.

I guess, in the end, I agree I would not die on this hill. Making the teacher take down her posters is not going to make the team change its name, and I only object to the name.

Because Cowboys and Indians were such good friend... you realize Cowboys are the reason Indians lost their land.

Did he talk about how the Raven's best player was involved in a murder.
