I came in to say this.... The whole platform is suspect and they haven't released any data to be publically scrutinized. They are running LDTs which do not have to go through FDA clearance. You can have all the patents you want but let's see if the have a viable product.

The idea that one can do 30 assays from 25 uL of whole blood is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

In which NIH lab do you work?

There must be something to what she is doing because how else would she be able to get VC funding. Of course, there have been other companies that were funded until they couldn't produce results. But if they do an IPO, that will be some indication as to the strength of their R&D and products.

So, what - the tests they claim to do are bullshit? http://www.walgreens.com/pharmacy/lab-testing/home.jsp

Instead of applauding a woman of accomplishment, many of you are attributing her success to parental money, influence, connections.

Celebrate the fact that she is an intelligent woman -- person if you like -- who is doing important work that will benefit most of you.

No one's "undercutting" her. This is amazing, and as a needlephobe, something I've been hoping for for years. It isn't undercutting her accomplishment to point out that there are probably many people with gifts and intellect like this but few with her access.

Do you know how many tests are run off the one drop of blood from the newborn metabolic screen? More than 50 depending on your state's panel.

A metabolic screen is quite different from diagnosing illness. There is a reason they are doing LDTs... Because the results can't be trusted.

No, we're not.

We're pointing out an obvious problem: that brilliant young women without access to resources may not be able to make the contributions to society that they can, because our country's inequality is hindering our productivity. YOU are the one reading it as undercutting another woman. Successful people don't whine and interpret everything as "undercutting" them.

The fact that you feel the need to be so pious in this exact thread casts doubts on you. I think the point is that you're jealous.

Not really... It just means labs are inspected periodically and they have some controls in place similar to GLP. Means nothing in terms of the quality of the assay/technology.

People "say" a lot of things... To get FDA clearance they need to clearly define how the tests work and exactly how the readout will be used.

I recall reading about her in this thread.
It turns out she was a fraud. Just surprised no one has posted this.

The DC way. Rake it in for a few years and hope they don't catch on.
