Yeah, super racist stuff like, maybe allowing super rich foreign investors that helps push more regular people out of the market isn't the best idea ever.

Some people are too naive to read the truth.

An American certainly could not go to China and buy property as a matter of right. A lot of the most valuable assests in this country are owned by foreign nationals. You have to wonder about the long term implications.

It is NOT a good thing.

Misplaced confidence in one's own gut-intuition? Having foreigners own our assets is probably one of the best ways possible to protect our country from foreign attack. China has much less of an appetite to bomb us when they make so much money off their investments in our national debt and real estate, for example.

Other positive implications of foreigners buying our assets is that it helps U.S. sellers get top-dollar for their assets, and it brings new ideas and wealthy contributors to our economy.

The tiger moms LOVE you! If you were like the tiger moms - there would be more competition for their kids.

I can't believe how many negative stereotypes are being passed around on this forum. I had no idea this area had so many narrow-minded bigots.

Most asian stereotypes are positive rather than negative

It is outrageous that the US allows this dirty money here. A large number of Chinese buyers have amassed their wealth by greasing officials in the communist party, especially since only 50,000 per year per household can leave country. They steal our technology, they make large donations to the most elite universities in the US , taking spots from middle class kids who would otherwise have these seats. Now they want our most desirable real estate, east coast and west coast cities.

No hardworking , well educated American can face off against the Communist Party and the corresponding corrupt business practices that leave the vast majority of Chinese nationals still living in poverty with little upward mobility.

It only takes a fraction of the wealthy Chinese to dislocate Americans in their own housing market in cities like San Fran , LA, NYC, where housing demand from local Americans is out of sync with supply without a large foreign bid. Add the Chinese bid to park cash , since they don't trust it at home, to these cities and basically say goodbye to Americans owning homes in these towns.

The Chinese could also park their cash in Detriot, where Americans and the US would get some mutual benefit out of this trade, but obviously Detroit is not good enough for their tastes.

Shame on our politicians and the NAR, where real estate brokers should need to confirm the legitimacy of cash transactions from foreigner buyers.

So the Chinese are even crazier than we are when it comes to parenting? God help the world. . .there are so many of them!

Great! Hope they offer full value for our home when we sell.

The DC area has attracted the rich and powerful from all over the world for decades. In addition to rich Chinese, the area has a healthy population of wealthy Indians and middle easterners.

Money into any economy is a net positive. Detroit would kill to have this "problem"

Saw a ton of shuttered beach front condos in Florida and no hurricanes to speak of...I wondered if their owners were offshore investors...

Time for some good old-fashioned adverse possession, Americans!

You don't consider this verification on the $6.5 million dollar purchase in NYC? I am sure if you don't believe the articles, you can google the agent who works at Sotheby's in NYC and verify directly with him.

Who cares WHO buys here as long as the economy continues to thrive? I am amazed by some of the numb skulls on the real estate boards who seemingly want the market to tank and constantly predict doom and gloom.

What's that going to do for your OWN investment?

I would rather have Chinese than those left living in Detroit. At least they work hard and tend to stay off of welfare. They also don't seem to be into having children they can't provide for or murdering each other.

Native Detroiter here. PLEASE do not base your view of all citizines of Detroit on some negative media reports of a few people. The majority of the citizens there are law abiding people who want to see the City turn around. On the real estate front, there are some very exciting things going on there and young professionals, of all races, are moving back downtown. It is a shame that a city that helped make this country a world power gets so much scorn from outsiders. Besides that, the suburbs are doing pretty well there and always have.

Actually Americans did the very same thing in Hawaii, when Hawaii was an independent kingdom.

We all know what happened to Hawaiian independence after that, don't we?
