Me too, but my idea of a "splurge" is $150 or if I'm feeling really flush and want to make a big purchase then a couple of times in my life I've gone up to a few hundred. $40k though? That's nuts. Who knows. Maybe they're not as rich as the OP. Whatever the case if the bracelet is a super small percentage of their wealth/income I suppose it doesn't matter. After all it's relative. I know I could swing maybe a $4k bracelet and there are plenty of people making at least 10 x what I make.
