This. Lived there and it's a dangerous dump of a city.

Ah, relax, princess. It ain't the most glamorous town around, but there's a lot to love about Baltimore. But you just stay in NW DC or Fairfax county or wherever you feel safe. More for us, hon.

Live in DC, but honestly love Baltimore. DC is just more expensive so schools cost more.

Baltimore County has good public schools, so most suburban residents send their children to public schools unless they have a family connection to a private school or a religious reason to pursue private education. The majority of the children in my children's classes live in the city. We are the only family in my suburban neighborhood who send our child to a secular private school, a couple other families send their children to Catholic schools. The majority of our suburban neighbors send their children to the public schools.

McDonough? Kids drive from the city to McDonough?

Boys Latin? Kids from the burbs generally go yo Gonzaga but this is not true about boys Latin?

Yes kids drive from the city to McDonough. Suburban kids go too, of course. Why is it surprising that people who live in the city might send their children to private schools in the burbs? Or that people in the city where public high schools aren't considered that good, might be more willing to pay tuition for private schools than people who live in the burbs where public schools are generally considered reasonably good?

Just wondering. DC kids rarely drive out if the city to go to private school.... Though this is becoming the new normal.

I am very interested in Baltimore privates. Job opportunities there, we went to dc privates and I understand those schools, just don't understand the Baltimore schools. Thinking of moving to hoco and sending kids to private.

No one from Howard county sends their kids to Baltimore schools -- it is a 40 plus minute drive each way during rush hour. There are a few good privates out in Howard county. The Baltimore privates each have unique strengths and weaknesses, and I would say 50/50 division between kids that live in Baltimore County and those that live in city. Fairly uncommon for city kids to attend Mcdonough or Garrison Forest, but it happens a bit. McDongough has its own bus service. Public schools in Baltimore County are good, but middle and high schools are large (not unlike MoCo) and some send their kids to private for that reason.

This is ridiculous. I grew up in Howard County. Yes, people sent their kids to privates all the time b/c Howard Co. has very few private options. My parents wanted me to go to McDonough and I wanted public, so I went public.

Glenelg Country School or Good Counsel would be the logical choices. Though IMO not worth it if you are living in HoCo in a good district. YMMV.

Grew up in Glenelg. I'm sorry, it doesn't compare to some of the Baltimore privates like Gilman or Latin.

Not as ridiculous as putting your kid on the bus for Forty minutes each way every day, which is why your parents probably chose not to do it. Though mcdonough does have boarders.
