Do you allow your teens to watch TV MA rated shows such as American Horror Story and Weeds?

I don’t even let my 17 year old watch TV-14.

Your kid will be pregnant early.

Now will my kid be pregnant error. My 17 year old daughter and 15 year old son are not allowed to watch TV-14 or TV-MA shows. I have parental controls on all devices, including TVs and phones.

Autocorrect is so stupid. They corrected my message. My daughter will not become pregnant just because she is not allowed to watch TV+-14.

I wish I can edit or delete messages so I can correct them

Why not TV-14 when they’re over 14?

My 15 yo watches them. I don’t care. Back in the 80s when I was in 4th grade, my friends and I watched the movie, I Spit on Your Grave and A Clockwork Orange. So 15 seems more appropriate for TV MA.

Absolutely you are a control freak.

And social stunting your child.

Not complicated.

I'm an older teen and my parents don't care about most things I watch 🤷‍♂️. Whoever was saying they don't let their 17 year old watch TV-14 shows are gonna have kids who hide behind their back and don't tell em things. Your gonna have sneaky kids and kids that don't visit home. Do not be surprised.

My husband thinks I am over reacting, but I think the content on these shows goes too far and validate behaviors that are not appropriate for teens. Thoughts?

I was never censored and could watch whatever wanted, same for all family.

My 14 yo finds plenty to watch that is TV-14 and below. We don’t allow TV-MA shows for him.

For those of you parents who care, there's a thread in the college forum about those girls who can't get dates. And those boys who won't reach out to girls to date. This is what you're setting your children up for.

I'm a pretty permissive parent and Weeds is DEFINITELY not for 14 years old and few 16 year olds could handle it.

There's also an awful torture scene in one of the later seasons.

OP’s DDs are now between 25-28 years old. I think we can put this thread to bed.

They’re still probably not allowed to watch these shows

American Horror Story provides strong representation of the LGBTQ+ community and I think it's not only okay but actually important that your kids watch it
