Never. But jealousy towards ivy students and grads runs so deep it leads to irrational comments like that which reveals the insecurity of the speaker.
I guarantee 99% of the population loses no sleep at night because they're jealous of ivy students, PP. You seem more insecure in your assumption that people are so jealous of ivy folks that it runs so deep. The vast majority just don't care as much as you. That's a fact.

Getting into an Ivy depends on a number of factor and smarts is not the only prerequisite.

When we have school and college kids competing in quiz shows etc,. have some compassion. It is just so sad that grown up people on DCUM want to pick on them.

I think it is commendable when they try out and more commendable when they can make it to the actual broadcast event.

I didn't suggest that every single person who didn't attend an ivy is jealous.

However, I do contend that those who make remarks like the OP are.

The vast majority may not care, but the ones who can't wait to point out a student from Harvard didn't win on Jeopardy DOES care.

And obviously you care too. You seem so butthurt over the post. Hit dogs holler, my friend.

Not the PP but what a bullshit comment. Nobody cares this much about Harvard whether you realize it or not. I and may others could give less than a good damn about HYP. This is a very small minority that freaks out over Harvard, yourself included.

Harvard guy poster takes offense at anybody who criticizes Harvard for whatever reason. Let him eat cake. I agree....most just don't care.

I returned to read the original comment. While I'm not a mind reader, I think OP may have pointed out (in a not so magnanimous way) that Harvard is not the only game in town when it comes down to intelligence and on Jeopardy, it sometimes comes down to sheer luck. While the Harvard student may have registered overt disappointment, I wouldn't take away from her ability to compete AND vice-versa.

I don't think it's so much jealousy about Harvard students as it is the inability of some to recognize that Harvard students don't hold a monopoly over intelligence. There are other college students on Jeopardy who are holding their own against their competitors exclusive of Harvard.

Harvard is a great school. But it certainly is not the only game in town as evidenced by its excellent competitors on Jeopardy.

You're being silly. PPwasresponding to OP, who most certainly cares about HYP, or wouldn't have brought it up. Of course most people don't care. I went to Harvard, and even i don't care. But OP cares, and it does sound like sour grapes. If you're confident, you dont bring it up. My smart non-ivy friends never would. Because they honestly don't care and don't haveNy insecurities about their educTion. Nor should they.

If you ever get a chance (if you haven't already), check out the Private School forum. They are insane over HYP, sadly.

It's true. It borders on obsession even though Stanford is more selective than HY or P.

But...but...I don't think that most rational, intelligent people think Harvard (or any other university) has a monopoly on intellect.

The Jeopardy winner was from...where..Vanderbilt? A & M? Who would think that means their schools have that monopoly? The same type of fool that thinks that by not winning Harvard is somehow inferior.

Your point gets at what many in this thread are saying: IVY ENVY is REAL! Why else would there be an assumption that "some" think Harvard has a monopoly on intellect?

There are so many different reasons that people attend the colleges they do. Yes, Harvard is a very good school. Among the best. No question. But even with the ridiculous assumption that Jeopardy! performance is somehow indicative of overall intelligence, it's ridiculous to think that, at any given time, every single kid at Harvard is more intelligent than any other kid at any other school. What the hell kind of reasoning is that?

Yup. 99% of the population doesn't lose sleep over HYP. But the 1% that cares hugely apparently includes OP and the other posters slamming Harvard. Some PPs here, like 11:13, are practically foaming at the mouth, unless 11:13 normally talks that way (which would be unfortunate).

I'm with 14:11: IVY ENVY IS REAL! Anybody who seeks personal vindication in the performance of one Harvard student in one Jeopardy match has self-esteem issues with Harvard.

You're the one obsessed. And like anything else that's overkill, this thread is played out whether you like it or not. Grow up, kid.
