Just curious b/c of the continuing rumors that she is not actually pregnant, but instead gave birth to Trig. If she has had the baby than that would lay the rumor to rest.

How do you know that Sarah Palin forced the marriage? How do you know that the guy didn't change his mind? Have you talked to him personally? I knew guys in my high school who had no intention of ever getting married and ended up having shotgun weddings. To my complete surprise, they were still married at my twenty-year reunion. And these were couples that I would have thought would have been divorced within a year. Sometimes, when a child is born, parents actually step up to the plate and make things work. I googled Bristol Palin and did not see anything about a birth, however did see that well wishers have already sent her 100,000 baby presents - according to her grandfather.

However, to perpetrate the Bristol is the mother of Trig rumor is just plain mean. Very very small...

Would be interesting to know which posters on this thread have or have had teenagers in their house. It's pretty complicated trying to parent a teenager. Of course, one lays the groundwork as best one can and some of us do it better than others. But in the end we have a lot less control over their behavior than we would like.

PP, you mention control. That's the main issue - just how much do we control our teens. Striking a balance is different for every family b/c each family structure is unique. A single mother, for example, obviously has more obstacles to face than a married couple. The key is being true to yourself.

Other PPs mentioned the hypocrisy in how Palin has raised her kids. If a parent says one thing but acts in a contrary manner, what message is s/he giving the kids? That's where Palin has failed miserably. Don't support sex education b/c that's bad. But do encourage your pregnant teen to marry her teenage boyfriend b/c that act of marriage will erase any evidence of premarital sex!

I am not the PP, but I believe that if we treat our teens as beings who need to be controlled, we miss the boat entirely. Setting limits, boundaries, and consequences are fine, but trust me, an attempt to controll will only result in rebellion.
