There aren't any big box stores in Centreville. There are chains like Starbucks and Hallmark and Giant (God forbid!) but our admittedly expansive network of strip malls is at least 70% Asian/Korean specialty stores. Resulting in many delicious restaurants and multiple Asian groceries. We have an awesome Lifetime Fitness, a neat little winery, a shitty movie theatre, and tons of Hispanic day laborers on the sidewalk outside of our library. And while we do have lots of town houses, don't hate. Ludacris' mama lives in one. |
Yup, I think so. |

Wow, here's the full list. Vienna isn't even on here! But Oakton is. Nah nah nah nah boo-boo.

As is Annandale but not on the list: Clifton, Great Falls, Fairfax Station, West Springfield, Burke |
I'd like to learn more about why these communities didn't make the cut. |
|
Perhaps we should take this discussion to Movoto's blog page. They give more detail of how they did the ranking:

| Ironically, we moved from Centreville to McLean. Trading down. Ha! |
(1) Learn how to quote properly (2) You don't have any idea what a condo looks like, right? Condos aren't just in tall buildings, toots. Furthermore, the ones that are on tall buildings - you know why they build up, instead of wide? Because the land is simply that valuable and desirable But I suppose you also have valet and people holding the door open for you in your fixer-upper-one-step-away-from-teardown thing that you call a home?

The Movoto website describes itself as looking at the humorous side of real estate. One measure they used in ranking communities was number of southern restaurants in the town. If you read the report you could not take it seriously. They called Rose Hill a town of 20,000 people. From their description it seems they actually meant Kingstowne in Alexandria/Fairfax County which kinda sorta borders the Rose Hill subdivision. Kingstowne is a new area in Alexandria which has mostly condos, townhouses and okay strip malls. Rose Hill is a bleak 1960s subdivision with a weak shopping center at its entrance. They actually did more than 10 cities and many other cities in NOVA. We're on the list I would give little credence to this study but if it makes people happy about where they chose to liver that is fine |

I'm sorry, I don't spend hours on end on DCUM, so I'm still rusty when it comes to things like engaging in long-running dialogues with complete morons. Anyway, you've got me, I'll concede: Arlington is truly a shithole. Shitty schools. Shitty, ugly, cheap houses. Shitty commutes. Clearly, no one wants to live here. The bidding wars and high home prices must all be an illusion. Thank goodness you're around to educate the DCUM population. Maybe you can get some billboards around town, too? You sound so well-educated and well-informed, I'm sure you'd quickly develop a following. Outside of your mom's condo, that is? Good luck to you. Without a brain in your head, you'll need it. |
Good lord that was a jumbled and chaotic comment - much like your neighborhood. Pause. Think. Organize your thoughts and format. My mom actually died when I was a child, so instead of making classless "your momma" jokes, maybe try going outside of your little defensive bubble and thinking a little bit? Believe it or not, people often don't conform to your assumptions, just because they said something you don't like. Were you a mean girl in high school? But I understand - someone who gets THAT upset over a comment about Arlington on an internet forum, probably has some extensive issues. Best of luck with that! xoxo |
| Where's the wine shop in centreville, I'd like to check it out! |
No! You poor, poor dear...lol. |
I believe they referred to a "neat little winery" - is that the one over in Clifton per chance? I believe that I heard about a little vineyard in the Clifton area some time ago, but I have never visited. |
