Want to know what Common Core testing will look like in Maryland? Look to New York.

Then how do you explain the science and social studies my kids are getting? The MSAs don't test for that in elementary school. The Common Core tests won't either.

There's a 5th grade Science MSA, actually. Also one in grade 8. In our MD school, we didn't see much science until grade 4. You see the most in grade 5.

Social studies -- if your child is getting social studies instruction, good for her teacher!! That's dedication!

The problem with testing is that a lot of these tests are not properly designed. They do not necessarily test what they are supposed to test. It takes years to develop a decent standardized test.

This is it exactly, people act like you are rolling out a test for a class of 20 instead of millions of students (1.1 million in NY City schools) in differing grade levels.

Don't you think the students in New York deserve better than to lose days of school to needless testing, be subjected to extreme stress, and reassigned to remedial studies based on improperly vetted tests? Millions of dollars are spent by school systems for these tests that, in this case caused a great deal of harm. I need to get in on this gig, charge 32 Million dollars for testing whether kids understand a curriculum that does not even exist then continue raking in the money. Better yet, you can use the students to test your product, and still charge a fortune.

The only thing that will change when Pearson rolls that trash down the coast will be the cover of the test booklet.

There are a whole lot better things that our local school systems could do with that large amount of money.

+ 100. To me the analogy is spending millions on testing everyone for, say, diabetes instead of just providing healthier food, and then not even using the results to help afflicted patients, just to fire their doctors.

PARCC Field Test Administration and Timeline

In spring 2014, the PARCC Field Test will be administered to over one million students across PARCC states. The PARCC Field Test represents a critical milestone in PARCC’s work toward building assessments for the 2014-15 school year, and will give students and local educators the opportunity to experience the administration of PARCC assessments.

The field test will be conducted in a random selection of schools across PARCC states. The sample of students in the selected schools will represent the demographics of each state and PARCC as a whole. Districts (or LEAs) with sampled schools will be notified of their selection by early September 2013.

While the field test assessments are designed to mirror those that will be used in the first PARCC administration in 2014-2015, most students participating in the field test will only take one part of the whole assessment in one content area in order to minimize testing burden on individual students and schools.

The administration windows for the PARCC Field Test are as follows:

Assessment Component 2014 Administration Dates
Performance-Based Assessment (PBA) March 24 to April 11
End-of-Year Assessment (EOY) May 5 to June 6

Several states have a minor adjustment in their testing window, due to special circumstances in their state. Recruited districts (LEAs) in these states were notified of this difference in their recruitment letters. If there are any questions about the testing windows, please contact the PARCC Support Center, which is available Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (CT). The telephone number is 888-493-9888. Schools can also contact the PARCC Support Center via email at PARCC@support.pearson.com. [1]

In spring 2014, PARCC will also provide access to a practice test for any interested schools. The PARCC Practice Test will include technology-enhanced items and will be delivered using the same technology platform that will be used for field testing, allowing students and educators in all PARCC states to become more familiar with the types of items that will appear on the PARCC assessments. For more information about PARCC Task Prototypes and Sample Items, please visit www.parcconline.org/samples/item-task-prototypes [2].

It's all a bunch of privatizing of the public school system bullshit, which is what is being exposed in New York.

I no longer call it common core... it's new name is the Gates-Pearson standards. call it what it is... not a lot of blah blah educational speak.
