PARCC Field Test Administration and Timeline

In spring 2014, the PARCC Field Test will be administered to over one million students across PARCC states. The PARCC Field Test represents a critical milestone in PARCC’s work toward building assessments for the 2014-15 school year, and will give students and local educators the opportunity to experience the administration of PARCC assessments.

The field test will be conducted in a random selection of schools across PARCC states. The sample of students in the selected schools will represent the demographics of each state and PARCC as a whole. Districts (or LEAs) with sampled schools will be notified of their selection by early September 2013.

While the field test assessments are designed to mirror those that will be used in the first PARCC administration in 2014-2015, most students participating in the field test will only take one part of the whole assessment in one content area in order to minimize testing burden on individual students and schools.

The administration windows for the PARCC Field Test are as follows:

Assessment Component	                                 2014 Administration Dates
Performance-Based Assessment (PBA) 	         March 24 to April 11 
End-of-Year Assessment (EOY) 	                         May 5 to June 6

Several states have a minor adjustment in their testing window, due to special circumstances in their state. Recruited districts (LEAs) in these states were notified of this difference in their recruitment letters. If there are any questions about the testing windows, please contact the PARCC Support Center, which is available Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (CT). In spring 2014, PARCC will also provide access to a practice test for any interested schools. The PARCC Practice Test will include technology-enhanced items and will be delivered using the same technology platform that will be used for field testing, allowing students and educators in all PARCC states to become more familiar with the types of items that will appear on the PARCC assessments.
