How creepy! |
Extremely, especially b/c her daughter is most like in remission or cancer free. It's been YEARS since she had cancer treatment and surgery as a toddler. Adrianne is at least 13 by now. |
I just bought her story and donated! So upsetting!!! |
Where was she? |
According to her gofundme page, she was in the Clarendon and Bethesda Whole Foods last week.
She made a couple hundred from those days it seems. |
She was in Clarendon last Sunday. I am now disputing the charge on my credit card. So disgusted with her story! |
Wow, she has received A LOT of money. |
Can someone give me a brief synopsis of her story? I've never heard of her. |
Yikes, she's official enough to accept major credit cards? It wouldn't occur to me to donate via credit card in this way. |
I didn't know you could use a cc for beggars. |
You have to go online to donate with cc. Anyone who sees her needs to steer well clear. |
Actually, studies have shown people are more likely to give money to other dressed like them; who look like they belong in the same SES. |
Is she in the DC area? She posted a video 6 days ago on her gofundme page from the Newport ice rink. The someone who donated 5 days ago said they met in Clarendon that day. She seems to get around, despite the blizzard. |
Elyse approached me today at Pentagon Row, early evening. Adrianne and one of the other children were with her. She looked tired. Told me Adrianne had cancer, gave me the flyer with the gofundme URL. Something felt off about it all, glad I Googled before donating. |
Elyse Johnson, with two children in tow, one holding a cane typically carried by blind people, approached my daughter and me outside Whole Foods in Alexandria on February 5th. She sounded convincing and gave us a GoFundMe site for donations. I made a donation and googled her afterwards. Wrong order. This family has been living off panhandling for many years. Who knows if this child ever had cancer. Ten years ago, they lived as "affluent beggars" in Oregon, have been sighted in the past five years all over the Northeast, often at Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, etc. I read that the GoFundMe site had an original goal of $20,000 and had raised $16,000 as of November 2015. It now has a goal of $50,000 and has raised $22,000, i.e., they have realized that this is a fantastic way to scam people. She has been at this for many years -- it is how she and her family make their living -- and she is very good at it. |
