Do you think your kids think it looks like a prison. Parents care about asthetics, kids don't. There are plenty other schools in the city, if you don't like the way the building looks mans if you think the building'a asthetics are going to impact the quality education you're getting, why not move on? Why harp on something that can't be changed?

Wow. It is not an unsafe neighborhood. It is very quiet residential neighborhood. Low enrollment due to many DCPS issues (mainly being a poor school) and many senior citizens that live in the neighborhood. As far as cemetery, it is not viewable from playground. I would say many people that live across from Rock Creek cemetery and solders home would disagree. I am thrilled to have lovely green space and a soon-to-be beautiful building that is very central for all.

There were about 5 police cars parked in front of the school today. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, yet it needs that many cops patrolling in it?

Why did you resurrect this thread just to repeatedly bash the new location? We get it; you don't like it. But its done. If you are a current parent then perhaps you should lottery for a new school and if you are not, don't apply.

NP here. You're not really one of those types are you? No need to keep spell check. I'm sure 99.9% can get the point and don't care about that. Really, why not just move on? Why not get a safer building? Wow, we should have thought about that! There are hundreds of other options in the city. Man, we dropped the ball on that. News flash, you live in the city, you will see cop cars. I live near expensive Dupont and am glad when I see cops patrolling. I see cops near current building too. In fact, there's one right next door at the "ghetto" high school. Darn, I really thought ITS was immune from people like you. Guess I was naive. I am very excited about the building and the location even if it will add 10 minutes to our commute. I know there aren't any other options right now.

I'm sure the architectural plans will include new windows to make it look less fortress-like. That was the architectural style when it was built. Nothing we can do now except modify and bring it up to modern tastes.

For those of you concerned about location, have you considered a parent paid for school bus?That is what latin has. Alternatively, über? Lyft? Or just an old school carpool? Lots of options! Maybe IT has a PTA that can help coordinate? GL!

Don't worry, our savvy group of parents is already exploring options. It's not like it's a "remote" location in any way, it's just that after two years in Shaw/U Street it's attracted families from all over the city. Getting the kids to school next year will take some juggling and teamwork.

Kids and families at all kinds of DCPS shcools and Charters traverse this city everyday. I bet you all will figure it out.

Shaed is in a great neighborhood. It might not be GT or Tenley but it's got solid housing around it, Trinity U across the street and a load of dead folks to keep it quiet. The building will take some work, but you all can handle that.
