It also will add a 6th grade next year, on up to 8th grade in two more years. At this point in time, as a current family, we were told it doesn't have plans to have more than two classes per grade level.

Second grade? There are already 2 sections of first grade this year. Do you mean it'll add a class to third grade?

No, sorry. That was unclear and not stated well. They have to add a second Second Grade teaching duo (adults). The following year, another Third Grade teaching duo (adults) to accomodate that grade which already has two full classes of students. They will add students throughout the school as students leave, in that class and any other. The incoming class with the most new students will likely be PS3.

Try applying to Lee Montessori if the location will work for you. That's how we got into IT: we took a risk with a brand new charter in its first year. Best decision ever.

Thanks! I am planning on it. I was very impressed with its application. Hoping to get more info at the charter school expo and info sessions.

Lee's first year is 2014-2015. It will be IT's fourth year.
They are both occupying the Shaed school building come fall.

Lee will be on the basement level with its founding classes. IT will be on the top three levels. Lee will move out once it expands past the space allotted and another school will likely take its place, much as IT took up the basement in the Potomac Lighthouse building its first year and moved out once it needed more space.

I don't this is official yet. Its the hope but depends on the actual state of the building and whether the necessary work can be done by fall.

I'm so glad! As an IT parent and Edgewood neighbor of Shaed, I couldn't be happier.

How will metroing parents get there?

It looks like the G8 and the D8 buses both stop a few blocks from the school. Google says it's a 15 minute walk from RI Ave Metro.

I'm confused about Sharpe. I was under the impression that it had already been excessed and that Bridges had bid on it. Does this mean Bridges didn't get it, or was I mistaken that it was ever excessed in the first place, or that Bridges bid on it?

It was excessed at the end of the school year when sharpe health kids were transferred to river terrace. I think bridges already uses part of it so the charter world is assuming they will apply for it and be the front runner.

^^ in the excessed bidding process this year they are only getting bids 1-2 schools at a time.

It's not official until city council approves. Fingers crossed for swift approval.
