Teachers with tatoos and piercings

Anonymous
A teacher with piercings and tattoos has no credibility in my eyes. That person is a flake, unreliable, and therefore ineligible to be taken seriously in the classroom.

I view such a person as a rocker/artist wannabe. They lacked the talent or discipline to be an artist so they picked teaching as a hopefully easy ride to get that early teacher's pension.

My children already follow my opinion concerning people with tattoos: they are trash, and belong in the dumpster with all the other undesirable people, the liars, the queers, the prostitutes, the drug users, and the slacker rocker wannabe losers.

What a lovely person you must be.

The army is considering denying enlistment to anyone with a visible tattoo. Tattoos are not universally socially acceptable. I don't want my kids to get the impression that they are.

I accept that there are a lot of people that have them and do fine. I don't think one of those people should be the teacher DC sees everyday.

I am not the pp to whom you are referring, but I am a Christian and I don't have a problem with tattoos.
And I don't know if my faith is what gives me the ability to understand that the post was MEANT AS SARCASM....GEEEZ

And lets talk about how trashy pierced ears are!

Wasn't there a post a few months back about whether or not having 2 sets of piercings on your lobe was trashy and inappropriate at work? The things that shock people on this forum make me wonder if they ever leave the house.

does this only apply for white people?

because many indian women have nose piercings going back hundreds of years.

My mom had one, my grandmother had one, my sister has one and they all are way more socially conservative in their personal lives and extremely educated.

I'll bet the teacher knows how to spell tattoo correctly, unlike you, OP.

OP, I think you are drawing such vitriol because there is underlying substance to your perspective even though in an ideal world we would all like to be so cerebral and accepting.

You should probably take your kid out of public school then or homeschool them. Being a judgemental uptight asshole is worse than a teacher having a couple of visibile tattoos/piercings. You should be teaching your kids to accept everyone & respect what others decide to do with their bodies. I really honestly feel bad for closeminded people like you.

Usually most teachers cover them up or take out the piercings for work, doesn't mean they don't have them.

I loathe tatoos and piercings, but I support this teacher’s right to wear them.

I wouldn’t like her decision on Halloween, and would ask the Principal to continue with that celebration.

I think that talking to my kid about my views on the inappropriateness of his teacher is not a good idea. I think that it is important to his success that I appear to be supportive of her. Regardless of my views, DC needs to respect her.

I don't insist that people conform to my values. I'm not going to insist anything in this case. I just think it is poor judgment on her part and on the school.

She is not some random person that DC sees out and about. She is his teacher. Someone there to teach him academics and how to behave in the world. She is one of his primary role models. I just wonder if we should expect more since she has been given this role.

Exactly. She is there to teach him academics and how to behave in the world. What do her tattoos and piercing have to do with either?

Well, tattoos and piercings are anti-social and professional, so setting aside the distraction part of it, it also conveys a message that they're somewhat acceptable in polite society when, in fact, they will directly interfere with career advancement later in life if the child emulates the teacher. So, I do understand OP's issues.

You simply don't see tatoos in the board room.

Depends on the company.

My DD’s science teacher has a nose piercing and triple pierced ears. She is an amazing teacher! And, yeah, I consider her a rock star at it. But she also has a twin sister who is a research scientist with lots of piercings and tattoos.
