are you insensitive to people who aren't situationally aware?

It's called "not suffering fools gladly". I'm on medication for it. Anger Management classes were ineffective.

Which medication? I think I need some.

I clearly stated I feel bad for my kid who broke a bone. My point was that in my mind I have the thought of "well you were warned" so that when she's complaining abt not being able to take gymnastics I don't feel like I need to coddle her and say things like "oh it's okay, we can put you in a craft class" which is what I did when my son was hurt and couldn't play his favorite sport for 2 months.

You are acting like I'm spitting on her and saying "I don't feel bad, in fact I'm not even gonna take you to a doctor." No, I'm simply saying "Hun, you got hurt before sliding on the railing and I tell you constantly to stop, now you can't participate in gymnastics with Kara. You'll have to wait till the doctors say it's ok"

And no I'm not narcissistic. I think I make mistakes too.. A lot of em. But I do like to recognize when I have done something wrong or just tempted fate once too many.

This is exactly why signing in is such bullshit. No doubt OP has been posting anonymously on her behalf all over DCUM.

Since this is clearly OP, I'll respond to her directly: it's your job to be here for your child and that includes comforting them when they break a bone. You can ALSO think and say, "Now you know why I kept telling you to stop sliding down the banister!" and come up with some consequences other than the broken bone, like losing TV, for doing something she was told not to do so many times. It's foolish to expect her to say "You're right and I see that now. I take responsibility for my actions and will suffer the consequences of a broken bone that I brought on myself." Absurd expectations of an 8 year old. You sound like you are talking about an adult caught cheating on their taxes and complaining about fines involved instead of taking responsibility for their actions..

Withholding your sympathy and comfort is terrible and it seems like you are doing it to punish her.

The ladder thing with your MIL -- she stepped off the bottom rung of the ladder and got hurt, which is unexpected for someone of any age. It's not like she fell asleep and rolled off the roof because she was an old lady.

I agree you sound cold. Maybe it's because you didn't get much sympathy when you were a kid yourself. It's not too late to be a better person.

Since OP has already responded on this thread anonymously, I doubt the "not OP" sign off means much to anyone. Doesn't to me, anyway. Hi, OP!

Yes, but when OP was writing anon earlier, it wasn't like she was trying to make it seem like it wasn't her. It seems like she didn't notice she was signed out

That doesn't matter. Why was she on DCUM posting anonymously? If people pick and choose when to sign in or post anonymously it makes the whole sign-in moniker a joke.

Empathy is something too many people are lacking. It states volumes about who they are as a person.
