High Schools To Avoid In Fairfax County & Other Questions

Anonymous
If you are looking for a smaller school within FCPS, you might take a look at Falls Church High School. It is our base school and has maybe 1400 students. We attended the orientation, met with other parents with children there, talked with the principal, counselors and teachers and would have been very happy to send our daughter there. She, instead, opted for the IB program at Marshall. We have friends whose base school is Stuart. They sent their daughter there for the IB program after 8 years of private school and couldn't be happier.

It's the wording of it. It is a question that accentuates the negative right from the start.

Part of my concern is that I feel like we are at the upper end of the income/housing bracket of our zone, if that makes sense. I'm concerned about DC being an outlier. (In the same way, DH wanted to buy in McLean where we would have been at the very bottom, and I didn't want that either - so it's not like I have something against those with lower incomes, I just wanted my kids to sort of be in the middle if that makes sense). I guess I am worried more about the other kids and a potential peer group than the academics, per se. I am also interested in any experience you have with the IB program at Edison.

Hope some others add to this. I'd like more first hand info. I'm looking forward to sending my child to Edison in a year. Relatively small school, students from a variety of backgrounds, and an IB program. App angle good college placement for good students. Good drama program. Student run cafe pin the vacationland center...
