Compacted 4/5 math: Post your school and how it's being handled

Who cares. In another thread I said this woudl be the case about compacted math, all the parents of kids not selected would throw a fit.

my kid never took a math camp, never did extra work, enjoys school and she is in it because ............... she works hard......... on her own.............

Right and who cares about your kid? This is a data gathering exercise because MCPS isn't transparent. Move on to the next thread if this one isn't for you.

Why is anyone surprised that the number of kids per school is not the same? Does anyone thing the test scores of kids are uniform through out the county. Schools always offered different levels of math even pre-2.0

I don't think it was by school. My child's letter said 33 was the cut off. He is now at an HGC and all of the kids were tested by their home schools so I imagine it had to be the same county wide.

If total points on the test is equal to 48, 33 seems like an awfully low score to qualify for advanced placement. I was told that the test took place over several days and that if they had difficulty with the first problem, they would not go any further and were placed in math 4.

Have we cracked the transparency nut yet? It's still unclear how the county handled these assessments, and if it was uniform across the county. Shall we call the central office and get clarification?

+1 yea, you are the tiger mom with all that hostility (BTW, my kid is in Compacted Math). But I certainly feel bad for kids that aren't but should/could be and I think highly of their moms who are advocating for them. A little more information that can benefit your child's education, that makes you an aggressive parent????

Agreed. The lack of transparency and consistency in MCPS is a huge problem. There always seems to be convoluted bureaucrat-speak which hides-the-ball on even the most basic things (report cards, grading systems, enrichment opportunities/criteria). Who, exactly, is this massive public system supposed to be serving???

My child was given one problem per day. There were five. But only some students even got the first problem. I don't think we know enough to know of 33 is low. My understanding is that the test was very hard. No one in my child's class got the answer right on question 5 though many got enough points to qualify.
