If you back into parking spaces

Anonymous
The argument I don't get is that it's faster. IT IS NOT. It takes much longer to back in than back out, simply because you're backing into a smaller space than you'd be pulling out into.

Because you are more likely to hit someone, either a pedestrian or another car. You have way too many blind spots when you back out.

There are exactly the same number of blind spots backing into a parking space as backing out, and there is a lot more space backing out than backing in. It's simple math.

YES!!!

Read on. Not the smart answer.

See, I actually think that backer-inners are much better parkers than I am. I can't back in, only pull into a forward-facing spot, and that's because it's much easier. Then I deal with the stress of having to back out. People that back in are far more talented, and then all they have to do is drive out. I think you're the idiot for failing to recognize your inferior parking skills and then blasting everyone who does it differently.

There are many blindspots also when reversing in.

Its not like you have a bunch of cars passing you by anyways, blindsport are a non-issue if you know how to use your mirrors. Blind sport is bigger issue when you back out.

If you have a taller SUV and it is not new (with the camera and beeping) you will not be able to see a small child walking directly behind your vehicle. Little ones are not always holding the hand of a parent / babysittter/nanny and walking right next to person. Esp. if there is more than 1 child. I love the back-up features of a newer vehicle, but before I had these I almost always backed in crowded lots.

Good point. For that reason we have a wide angle lens attached to rear window and also back up at snails pace.....at least until the rear of our car has passed the front of the cars on each side.

And you're just a lazy ass who doesn't know how to parallel park.
10,000.

I am pretty sure the original post is about backing into row parking, not parallel parking. Otherwise, virtually none of the responses make sense.

Backing in is a snap with the guided backup camera on my car (as is backing out) but I still never do it because I don't like having my lift gate blocked by another car.

I don't care if other people back in as long as they don't suck at it (which a lot of people do.) backing in is not an excuse for a crappy parking job. You still need to be in your space!

Not if you know how to use your side mirrors correctly.

The ONLY idiots are the ones who back in at Costco. WTF?

So now it's considered safer to back into parking spots? It's far slower. I hate backing into small spots. It feels easier to back out.

It always was. Welcome to the party.

Back in Parker's always have huge cars that's they can barely drive. It takes them forever to park and meanwhile they block traffic. Jerks

Agree -- this is what pisses me off. When people back out of spots, they have to wait for an opening in traffic; when they back in, they're just making the rest of the world wait for them. That's why I think people who back into parking spaces are just self-centered twits.

If it takes you more than 1 second longer to back into a spot than pull into from the front, you need to go back to drivers ed.

If you drive so recklessly that you can't back out of a space without hitting something or someone, you need to turn in your license.
