Who would ever want to go to school in Richmond? It's a backwater at best where they are still fighting the war of northern aggression. Unless you really have a burning desire to be the Marlboro Man and work for Phillip Morris/Altria or sell autos for Carmax there is no reason in the world to ever even volunteer to visit Richmond, never mind actually living there for four or five years. |
and Elon is where exactly?? |
it's - wait for it - in Elon NC. I'm thinking the PP was trying to answer the thread about U of Richmond, or had just taken too many hits on her hooka |
Really? I think you may have the sarcasm... |
may have missed the sarcasm.... |
Umm . . . you are reading the US News rankings - Richmond is #28 among National LIBERAL ARTS Colleges [ a category that is basically limited to SLAC's and excludes the colleges and universities that most people care about]. So your statement that UR is considered a Top 30 Private College is only true if your exclude Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, Stanford . . . |
Only knew of one person who went and came back to the Northeast and attended a school closer to home. According to here there wasn't much going on off campus but in fairness this girl was a bit spoiled so not sure if that is the best perspective. Most people I know don't really know Elon, its a name that's only come on the radar very recently. Best of luck in your search. |
nope, but I think you missed the sarcasm in the response.... |
People don't care about Williams, Colby, Amherst, etc. ?
Same list.... |
Overrated, overdrugged, and overpartied. |
People don't care about SLACs? Middlebury, Williams, Amherst, Pomona . . . I think a lot of people care about these schools. My DC does not want a university because he prefers a small liberal arts college focused on undergraduate. This takes snobbery to a new level. |
say what? |
Does anyone have stats on Xmissions from Elon to say e.g., top law schools? Seems like that stat would definitely add some value to the conversation that this school "is as good as it looks"? |
if thats your metric. I know my DC wants to avoid the colleges that are too "preprofessional" and much more interested in schools that send a lot of grads to Phd programs. Maybe everyone needs to understand that some things aren't quantifiable. Finding the right college for your DC, for example. |
I know a girl who graduated from Elon within the last 5 years and she became.....a professional nanny/photographer. Yes after years of tuition that was her calling. So, obviously it's a VERY competitive school. |
