There are lots of kids on campus whose first priority is deciding which parties to attend on Fri and Sat nights. Elon has a LONG way to go before it can be mentioned in the same breath as schools like Duke, Davidson, and UNC-CH.

Agree with this assessment and I have a student there.
Comparing it to High Point is not accurate.

But see 8:21"s point: This is so DCUM. Ignorant pompous people who bash anything SN. These are the same bullies who branded non-traditional learners “retards” when they were in HS. Elon was designed with a mission to serve non traditional learners, so the hate from ignorant DCUM’ers will never die. Elon continues to serve the population of extremely bright kids with learning differences (2e, something the haters don’t like to acknowledge) but over the last 20 years or so the university has become a magnate also for all kids who want small classes, professors who know their name, and a warm, nurturing social and academic environment. That’s why Elon now has such high admission standards (average GPA 3.9 average ACT 27). My kid is 2e and the schools around here that serve these non traditional learners have pipelines to colleges like Elon, so my DC will get in with much lower stats. Elon continues to be an excellent choice for bright kids with challenges like dyslexia, ADHD, etc. So please stop throwing around SN like it’s a slur. You sound like an idiot.

I serve on the Board of an SN schools. We send kids to both Elon and High Point (High Point is much more expensive however). And no, no slur to SN kids - their needs are just better addressed at smaller, schools with a dedicated department and mission like Elon and High Point have.

That is all fine, but it doesn't change the caliber of the school overall. I am very close to several young people who went there (one definitely undiagnosed ADHD) and learned a lot about their experience. They loved it, for sure, but it isn't remotely an intellectual place. I have a 2e kid, too, and I would never send him there. He will be surrounded by a few other students like himself, but mostly by average, white kids who aren't completel slacker, but also are not looking for intellectual enrichment or even academic challenge. It's a fine school, but not even close to more selective schools and yes, very much like High Point. Oh, and, don't forget, full of students of racist parents.

Nothing like throwing around inaccurate accusations and painting all parents as racists.
Have you even ever stepped foot on the campus? How about High Point?
Tired of you and your anti Elon agenda every time some posts something positive.

What are the “several@ young people you are close to now doing with their lives after wasting 4 years at this terrible institution of learning, surely they can’t be employed.

Well, one hasn't yet graduated. The other one graduated three years ago, mother still raves about his GPA while there but what is he doing now? He's a cop in a backwoods town. Nothing wrong with that, but there isn't even a spark of interest in the world outside of his small community. And I have seen similar outcomes from other students leaving there. It's great for SN kids that don't have major aspirations and for those devoted to service in small jobs. Sorry, but that's a fact.

I guess we all have our experiences with graduates. I know several students that have ended up with professional careers and law school.
Guess we will have to agree to disagree.

That proves nothing. Which law school? Top ten? Then not worth it and just another nod to the wisdom of an Elon education. What "professional career?" I mean, ad sales could be considered professional, but who wants to do that?

We get it - you dislike Elon and think everyone there is special needs and doesn't have a good job. Time to move on.

I had a friend who was a poor student in HS-- learning disability. Looked at different schools than the rest of us. (top private) Chose Elon and makes more money than anyone else in the friend group now. Great result for her.
