Teacher told class they need to wear deodorant.

I second the recommendation for Tom's. There's nothing "bad" about it, and if a child doesn't necessarily need deodorant, it's good training (said by a mom whose daughter really, really needs it but forgets at least half the week).

Agree with that with our 6th grade DD, so days not so bad but last week with the humidity, urgh. Thanks for the rec on Tom's

My DD is 10 and in 4th grade. She just told me some of the girls are using deodorant. She personally doesn't need it yet, but when she does, I want to get her this:http://www.amazon.com/Crystal-Deodorant-Medium-Unscented-Ounce/dp/B00028QA72

My 4th grader's hair smells worse than his pits. His pits don't smell at all but after sweating during the day, his head smells like a wet dog. It's disgusting and he doesn't care!

Toms is a good brand and its a nice way to get a child use to the routine of using deodarant. My daughter is 11 and few months back I noticed she was having smelly pits. I am glad I was the first one to tell her rather than someone else!

Even if your daughter doesn't need deodorant, you should at least let her practice putting it on, so she gets the hang of it.

She's had 3 years to practice now, so she's probably figured it out.

Tom's makes my pits smell like rotten Froot Loops. Burt's is way better and more refreshing.

Why are you getting your kids axe if you hate the smell so much? Is it so hard to say "no" to it???? That horror axe smell every day is awful to live with.

If you don't think your daughter has BO yet, don't use deodorant. But if it was my kid who was starting to smell bad, I'd be happy the teacher just addressed the class instead of embarrassing my child.

This, x100. Some kids are starting puberty at that age.

Yes, this. If you're confident your daughter is not a culprit, I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep an eye on it.

Before you judge this teacher, I suggest you enter her room at 2:00 pm on a warm day after recess.

If you still want to tell me she's starting them too young, I will recommend you see a neurologist.

She came home yesterday telling me she needs to start wearing deodorant. I asked why. "The teacher told us to.". She told the whole class, did not single out my child.

I realize it's getting hot and the kids are getting sweaty at recess. But deodorant on a NINE year old???? My child is not in puberty yet. She doesn't smell. I buried my face in her arm pit to check, no smell.

I think I'd rather delay my child using deodorant as long as possible because I've heard that they can be linked to breast cancer. She'll have enough years ahead of her of exposure to deodorant, she doens't need to start at NINE.

Am I way off base here? Is it normal for a 4th grade teacher to give a blanket directive to a bunch of nine year olds to start using deodorant???

In our school, the kids start getting FLE in the nature of body "stuff" including using deodorant. You tell her no and your reasons. Does everything have to be a crisis? Be a big girl and deal with it.

Re: this talk, the teacher wasn't going to "time it" perfectly for 30 students.
