Boosterthon at Haycock

I'm sure there are still plenty of Haycock lovers, but as the Cunningham Park post notes, not everyone wants to be in a school where AAP is the end all and be all of the school and parents are competitive and arrogant toward one another. If you and the principal can't realize why a fundraiser for Haycock this spring is a bad idea verses say this fall, I have to question how smart you and this school really is. It's not like every school in FCPS is doing a spring fundraiser this year and it's a regular thing.

Haycock has regularly had spring events and there is no reason why one should be canceled this year. If people don't want to participate, they should decline. No one will go after them because they weren't in the mood. Really. If you don't understand that, I have to question how smart you really is, too.

People in Chantilly who worry about the AAP/non-AAP balance at Haycock, halfway across the county, will have their own hands full if their kids are assigned to Greenbrier West or Rocky Run.

I don't recall a spring fundraiser in the past 3 or 4 years so I'm not sure it's something Haycock regularly does. When was the last one?

The prior post referred to spring events, not spring fundraisers. Personally, I think it will be great fun for the kids.

By the way, Field Day is June 7th. Maybe some of the parents who have reservations about contributing money to the Boosterthon could volunteer on Field Day. Or they can just sit on the sidelines and complain, but their kids are still at the school for the remainder of the year.

A spring event (like the Haycock Trek or the spring carnival) sponsored by the PTA is very different from a major fundraiser sponsored by the school itself. I have no recollection of the school itself doing a fundraiser (as opposed to the PTA) and my kids have been there several years.

Riiiiight. Because you say so.

Field Day? How many parents even volunteer for that? I think it's a blip on their minds. They're having to start their children at a new school with what seems to be little support from Haycock parents and faculty.

This entire thread is ridiculous. We have had fundraisers throughout the year. The school has spent money on all our kids throughout the year. Should we give back all that money and ask Lemon Rd to pay for all the extra materials the school has spent? We have the spring carnival and Trek for Teck in the spring every year. This is no different. Participate or don't.

The school will be limited in any fundraising for the next 3 years. Also, this was a school decision. Staff and the PT A board agreed to the fundraiser. They are in desperate need for technology and as far as I can tell, the PTA has done nothing special to help.

I'm sorry for Lemon Rd parents, but move on. You don't have to participate and your kid still runs. Win/win.

PP, perhaps you didn't read the beginning of the thread. It was from a parent questioning the fundraiser because the for profit fundraising company takes half of the proceeds and why the school itself (instead of the PTA was doing a fundraiser). It wasn't about Lemon Road. That came up later.

These are legitimate questions.

9:16 here. Also, I would say this is different than spring carnival or Haycock Trek. They are asking for a lot of money and they are asking our kids to call friends and neighbors all over the country. My child came home and asked me to pledge $20 a lap and then he wanted to call all of our relatives.

We appreciate every one’s feedback and input. We spend an entire day reviewing the survey
data with our leadership team as well as share individual data with teachers. This year we have
requested that parents are mindful on how they word their comments since comments are
shared with teachers. In the past, some comments have been written very unkindly and the
feedback is unproductive. When things are written in a very unkind and hurtful manner, any
validity to the comment is lost because the teacher is focused on the meanness of the comment.

We are open to hearing criticism, but experience has shown that it’s more likely to be heard and
understood by all parties if it is communicated in a productive way.

Wow. Just wow.

And they asked the kids to hack the bank accounts of financial institutions all around the world, including Goldman Sachs and Barclays, and every hedge fund in the entire state of Connecticut. My child came home and asked me to hire her a good criminal defense attorney after she returns her packet.

Just reiterates everything on this forum. Haycock parents are mean, clearly feel entitled, and unkind. Even to their own teachers, SAD.

Guess you missed the "some comments" part. Personally, I'm glad Haycock is a place where feedback is requested, provided, and evaluated. Some schools only listen to the cheerleaders. It's a great school whose popularity will hardly be diminished by passive-aggressive posts by anonymous posters who may or may not have any connection to the school, but whose jealousy could hardly be more apparent.

Jealousy? Nope!

I think that should be SOME parents are mean. The principal stated that "some comments have been written unkindly." Not all.

To be fair, there are some nice parents at Haycock.

Wow, some people have too much time on their hands and no life except trying to hurt the rep of a school. Please get help for the sake of your children.
