In my children's school, Boosterthon created a hostile environment that directly bullied the kids and created competitions that led to bullying behavior among the children. Yes, it made the school a lot of money, but at what cost? So many children came home in tears for two weeks because Boosterthon threatened to humiliate those that lost the pledge competitions. The information in the link above helped us convince our school to never let Boosterthon back again. Hopefully, it helps other parents wanting to rid their kids of the toxic environment created by Boosterthon.

Good luck!

If this is true, your school has an administration and school culture problem.

Boosterthon is the least of your troubles.

If you think this isn't happening at each and every school Boosterthon visits, you need to get your head out of the sand, my friend. Five minutes of investigation will tell you all this and more. Our schools have not properly vetted this company.

If you donate money directly to your school or your PTA within a certain time period surrounding Boosterthon than yes, that money may be counted as a pledge and skimmed. (I know some parents will instead purchase gift cards and give directly to the teachers to avoid this.) I will not be donating a cent and my child will not be there on fun run day. The amount of advertising they do to the kids is ridiculous.

Incidentally I volunteer 5-10 hours a week at my kid's school and last year donated $1,000 that I really could not afford. I am not someone who complains but never contributes.

Boosterthon was not invited back to our school. It was extremely controversial and my kids did cry every night.
