How to identify future stripper names?

Who cares? Since when is a name designated a 'stripper name?' Just because you saw it on tv?

OP, I think Amber is lovely, and don't consider it a stripper name at all. In terms of naming your own child, just don't use an "i" where there should be a "y", or a "y" where there should be an "e" (and so forth) and you'll be okay.

OP here. I'll tell you exactly when it happened for me/my circle. Remember the show "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy?" One week they were making over a guy who worked as a bouncer in a strip club. They were testing out couches in a furniture store and the decorator guy said of a particularly large couch "and this is perfect for when Amber and Amber and Amber and Amber and Amber come over after work." I heard from people about it all week.

I don't hate my name at all, and I grew up in large northern cities where it was super-rare at the time as I said. It hasn't limited my options. But I and others "care" because the wrong name CAN limit options and be a burden. I'm not seriously worried because I believe in using common spellings and so on.

I am Amber, and I wonder where PP grew up where it was common, because I never knew another Amber until my 30s (although the name was clearly gaining pop culture momentum before then).

My sister is Lark but I am totally going to call her Nuthatch now.

Thanks for not keeping us in suspense, OP!! I also knew several Ambers growing up in the 80s in the South - guess it just depends on where you're from. Sorry, it was looked down on as sort of a "country" name when I was growing up.

Don't name your kid after anything shiny (Mercedes), sparkly (Crystal), or edible (Brandi, Candi, Brie) and you'll be just fine.

Awesome - I have a stripper name.

Eh. I guess I have a 'stripper' name and I don't give a shit. It is a religious name but I have noticed it has seemed to garner somewhat 'trash' status lately.

A name is what YOU want it to represent ad not what others depict it as (except if you have a kid with the same name as a widely known terrorist/murderer/other criminal, etc). Unfortunately, that's a recipe for bullying and other unfortunate crap.

I have a name similar to Amber. It was not very prevalent when I was young and I love it. However, it became very popular shortly about a decade after I was born. It is now the name of pretty much every trailer park girl you know and is now seen as kind of trashy.

So, what do we think are the trailer park names of the 2030s?

OP: you m ight have a stripper name but when you"google" my name, you get a playboy playmate. The best parts are that she's my age, studied what I studied in college and with a lot of Hollywood magic, (and big fake boobs) I too could look like her. I tell people that's how I paid for college.

Never thought of my name as a stripper name! I always thought Ivy was like an old English house servant name.

Ivy isn't a stripper name, it's a hipster name.
