Anyone else have a Titanic obsessed 5-6 year old?

My brother and I were pretty obsessed with Titanic as kids. My mother provided us with books, took us to museums, and uses it to feed a general interest in history. I'm still mildly obsessed as an adult. There's just so many interesting stories and oddities about the whole thing that are fascinating. The ship is an interesting feat of engineering. The people, the class distinctions, the mystery of what truly went down that night and why.

Mine is obsessed with elevators. He loves YouTube videos of guys taking trips to checkout various models more than anything else.

No, but that’s funny! 😁

How old are you? You can't be over 22, right?

Was also 7 when it came out. I'll be 30 next month.

Sorry, it was in recent topics for whatever reason.

My 5 year old is obsessed with presidential assassinations. He will tell neighbors when they say hi as they walk past, “did you know Charles Giteau shot James Garfield in a train station?!!”

We get a lot of blank stares. At least people have heard of the Titanic?

Mine wanted a Titanic birthday cake for his 6th. I did steer him onto a happier cake theme that did not involve death, but I did buy him his Magic Treehouse Titanic books he'd been wanting.

And here I was thinking my Son had some kind of morbid obsession. He's been obsessed with the Titanic (and Carpathia) for 2 years and is now six. Ask him any fact and he'll answer correctly down to details of the layout of the ship, engine (including how it works) and passenger list. As I type he's currently playing a Titanic physics simulator where you can ram the ship at different angles to see how many Trillian ways it can sink and how long it takes. He is so obsessed, he re-creates the titanic in the bath (and pretty much anywhere else with his hands if he has nothing physical to make one out of) complete with sound effects. I think he needs help, I know I do!

Yes, my middle child went through an intense Titanic phase in elementary that lasted for a couple of years.

Yep, DS was obsessed with Titanic ages 4-6. We had to buy tons of books because that’s all he wanted to know about. Probably aligns with learning about mortality and a combination with big ships. DS no longer talks about Titanic.

I’m obsessed with Hurricane Hugo, which made landfal in my state in September 1989. I wasn’t alive when he happened, but I surely do know a lot about him.

Whenever I feel like my obsession is weird and morbid, I remind myself that there are people out there who are obsessed with the Titanic and the night of its tragic sinking, and I can totally relate to them!

I saw this thread bumped and yes, my older DS, my middle kid, was completely obsessed with the Titanic around age 6! It's mostly died down (he's 8 now), but I had no idea this was a thing. Ha!

Totally! My kid is 10 now and is still obsessed with anything transportation related. I found a few titanic classes on Outschool that could be interesting and fun for your kid too.
