Aruba has a better rep? Isn't that where Americans tend to go missing? |
| Only once every couple of years and they usually don't find the bodies. In Mexico it is every day and they hack you up into pieces after torturing you..... |

Today's headlines:
"Mexico security forces accused of abducting, murdering civilians" |
|
I am so tired of the anonymous poster who posts hysterical warnings on Mexico. Again, most tourists do not visit border towns. The typical Mexican vacation sports are Cabo, Cancun/Riviera Maya and PR. I think most people ditched Acapulco in the 80s. Here is what the State Dept says on these areas:
Baja California (South): Cabo San Lucas and La Paz are major cities/travel destinations in the state of SouthernBaja California -see map to identify its exact location: No advisory is in effect. Jalisco: Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta are major cities/travel destinations in Jalisco -see map to identify their exact locations: You should defer non-essential travel to areas of the state that border the states of Michoacán and Zacatecas. You should also exercise caution when traveling at night outside of cities in the remaining portions of this state. There is no recommendation against travel to Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta. There is also no recommendation against travel on principal highways in Jalisco between Guadalajara including the portions that cross in to the southern portions of the state of Nayarit. The security situation along the Michoacán and Zacatecas borders continues to be unstable and gun battles between criminal groups and authorities occur. Concerns include roadblocks placed by individuals posing as police or military personnel and recent gun battles between rival TCOs involving automatic weapons Quintana Roo: Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya and Tulum are major cities/travel destinations in Quintana Roo -see attached map to identify their exact locations: No advisory is in effect. |
| f@uk me..... I'm going to Disney Land. |
| If you cannot be protected by the Police or Military there, why would you go? There are too many other places to visit in the country and around the world where you don't have to be looking over your shoulder while sipping your banana daquiri.... |
Oh well then, I guess it was OK that they were raped? Because they scored a bag of weed on vacation? Boy that makes me feel safer. |
|
The don't go to Vegas either: Three dead after shooting, fiery crash on Las Vegas Strip
or LA: Tourist's body found in water tank atop LA hotel |
| But it's not like it's the police or military fascilitating the Las Vegas and LA killings. They are supposed to be the one's protecting us. There is a mass breakdown of the security infrastructure in Mexico and most of the gov't is still corrupt. Why not just go hiking in the mountains along the Iranian border or para-sailing along the Somalian coast? Some things you just don't do because they are plain stupid..... |
| DEFINITELY don't go to the Riveria Maya. Stay here, PLEASE! I just got back from a fabulous family trip to Tulum and Playa del Carmen and met the nicest Canadians. A week there and not a single American at our resort. People were universally friendly. Definitely DON'T start going to QR!! |
| It's not that every tourist is going to be victimized; it's more like playing russian roulette..... |
|
From today's headlines (2/25/13):
Businessman slain in Acapulco's 2nd violent attack involving foreigners in 3 weeks |
| Leaving for mexico on wed for my first vacay without kids ever. Going with girlfriends to Tulum. Cross your fingers. |
| Take some cyanide in the event they want to torture you before they cut your head off (I've actually seen a beheading video of a corrupt Mexican cop. The blade on the knife was so dull, it took like 4 of them like 10 minutes to get if off. All the while the cop is kicking and screaming and wouldn't die. Not a nice way to go). |
