The playground extends to the edge along Westmoreland St. |
Child labor camps and recess don't go together. |
It doesn't really extend that far. There is a baseball field before Westmoreland and on the soccer field side, there is a parking lot. |
| Geez. Just look it up on Google maps. You can see it for yourself. |
Duh, as if kids won't play soccer or football on the grassy field! |
| Duh, it goes to the parking lot, not the street. |
Duh, you've obviously never visited Haycock's field. There's a grassy area right next to the baseball field, and that grassy field is bordered by Westmoreland. Duh. |
Actually, my kid goes there. I guess I never paid much attention. I always thought it went to the parking lot. Obviously, I'm not too concerned. |
| PP here. Out of curiosity (and fear of being a bad parent) I looked it up on Google maps. It looks like there are trees or shrubs at the point where the grassy part hits Westmoreland, which really is not that much space next to the baseball field. I remain unconcerned about it. |
Most people aren't too concerned until something happens. Get your facts straight or you'll make another uninformed comment. |
Yeah, the tree canopy can stop a soccer ball or prevent a child from running into the street. |
| You guys are crazy! |
Haycock has been in the same location 58 years. It appears that a few generations have managed to make it through. |
Yes, and soccer moms still transport their kids in horse and buggy w/o texting. |
| Why is everyone so rude on this forum? If you don't feel that fences are a safety issue, can't you just say so without being rude? I've been looking at these forums because we are planning to move to the area, and like the original poster, if I lived in the area and had already driven by I might have asked a question about the fence as well. I would never be expected to be attacked for it, though. Different families have different perspectives, and different needs too. For example, my nephew has Aspergers and tends to run off frequently. Perhaps the school employees in Virginia are much more omnipresent than those in his state, and that must explain why he ran off and was unaccompanied several times during the school day. Why does voicing concern about lack of fences have to equal some sort of attack on the amazingness of the Haycock school. I will try to avoid this school for my child (not because of the fences) but because it seems like a lot of the rudest parents go there. Having to deal with these kind of verbal attacks would be a bigger concern to me than any other issue. |
