Haycock elementary-Safety concern?!

I would say it's enviable, but then everything about the school seems to provoke envy from 1-2 posters.

Yeah, I guess having a fence around the playground would make the kids less safe.

I went to a school that had a fence all around it. The kids used to call it a concentration camp, which is crude but tells you how it was perceived.

If there's no history of incidents on school property, I don't see why a fence is needed.

Yes, and kids clearly know what's best for them.

And kids say the cafeteria food sucks, so when are you going to have lunch privately catered?

Wow. Are you a professional douchebag, or is it just a side hobby?

There is not a single point where the Haycock field touches a major road. It does touch a parking lot, and there is a road on the other side of the parking lot...but this image you are painting of an un-fenced field being up against the road is just absolutely incorrect.

The points that you try to make are ludicrous. You clearly need a gate around you to keep yourself away from the rest of humanity.

Haycock during afterschool pickup is like a trainwreck. If nothing else, there needs to be a gate protecting the kids from the stupid parking lot.

why so much jealousy around Haycock? If you really go there and hate it so much PP, just move already. Me thinks you don't live anywhere near it.

You are clearly a moron. Stay away from kids if you're not concerned about their well being.

Why do you think it's jealousy? Perhaps it could be frustration with the constant threads about Haycock and the superior attitude of the parents that live near there. No other school gets so much space on DCUM and there are plenty of other very good schools in NoVa.

Because it's obvious from the content of the posts.

If you excluded the threads and posts started by the one or two jealous posters, Haycock would get about as much attention on DCUM as schools like ASF and Louise Archer. It might get slightly more because it's overcrowded, and people debate what should be done about it, but even some of the posts on that topic are sham posts by posters who seem to have serious mental issues.

Of course there are other good schools in NoVa. I can't recall an instance in which anyone who actually has a kid at Haycock has said otherwise.

Honestly, I have a child at Haycock and I think some (not all) of the parents are a little over the top. They are very vocal. If you recall at a PTA meeting last spring the principal even mentioned how Haycock parents have been a little too strong in their advocacy in the past and don't have the best reputation with the building and planning folks. I think that is an example of the tone some of the parents there take. Obviously, not all. I'm a Haycock parent and I don't act like that and you are probably the same. The jealousy comment is typical of that attitude. It implies that Haycock is so much better than everywhere else that of course everyone is jealous. It's exactly like the tear down comments on the real estate forum that say that if a poster doean't like tear downs it is because they are poor and can't afford one. Sometimes people here are unable to comprehend that someone else might choose a different school or house for other reasons an they are not necessarily jealous of other Haycock parents (or people that own tear downs or whatever).

I appreciate what you are saying, but when a poster responds to another poster who has kids at Haycock and does not believe a fence is needed by insulting them and calling her a moron, it is very hard not to conclude that the first poster is jealous, unhinged or both.

The facilities/building people within FCPS don't like anyone who challenges their priorities, whether they are at Haycock, Falls Church HS, or the now-closed Clifton ES. That's just the way things are.

10:29 here. I agree that some of the posters on this thread are unhinged and the entire thread has been crazy. I don't think that means people are jealous, though.

If you have a legitimate concern about safety, you go to the school and voice your concerns. Posting on DCUM will not address this and the one or two anti-Haycock posters are transparent in their dislike of the school and will jump on any chance to speak negatively about the school. It's painfully obvious that it's laughable.
