I'm not the pp, but I must ask you a question. Why is it the responsible of a black person to address the misbehaving of a child that does not belong to us, just because they are black? Are you actually advocating going up to children/teens and correcting their inappropriate language? I would never do that. It is obvious that you are white, because you seem to be of the often -seen group of people who think that black people should be held accountable for the actions of others within their race. There is a difference between nigger and nigga. There is a difference in context in the way blacks use the word and the way that (some) whites do. BTW, re: the telling of our history, what do you mean by black kids only learning "angry words spouted by their angry parents"? Are you suggesting that black adults are pissed about past injustices and are teaching their children to be angry? I truly hope you aren't a teacher. If you are, I now see why DCPS are so effed up. |

14:12- I'm not angry and never said I was, so how would I be able to address your questions which are meant for those who are angry? Because I am black I am supposed to be able to speak for every black poster in this thread, even if we don't share the same view?
Also, your tangent about white teachers isn't something I'm going to address because unless I missed it, you're the only one talking about it. |
I am the PP being interrogated by the teacher and I think I'll just step away from this thread now. It has gotten very bizarre with people demanding that I detail how I deal with strangers who I hear say offensive things on the street in passing. It seems people aren't even reading posts and instead are creating whatever narrative they want. |
Even though you said your comment was 'unrelated' to this particular story, it seemed like that's exactly what you were talking about. What idiot doesn't know that "Maybe when you're the group a joke targets, you don't find it as amusing as people who do not and will never have no connection to it." It seems pendantic to suggest that we don't already know that. You can find things not funny without thinking them offensive or inappropriate - which is what PPs have suggested. |
The systems are effed up b/c people don't take responsibility for each other. I cannot parent a black child, yet I do in so many ways b/c I see the saddest cases at my school. I listen. I teach. I base many lessons on what they've experienced in their lives b/c they can connect to literature that reflects who they are. So yes, take responsibility for your own kids. Two of my best friends are black females. I grew up with them. I can't tell you how often we'd be in the car, and my friends' mothers would stop to yell at another black kid who was just being an ass - or whose pants were too low - or who was sitting in the middle of the road, holding up traffic for the hell of it. So take care of YOUR kids. Be role models. Enter the teaching profession. Volunteer! Become social workers. Until YOU step up, white people in service professions like teaching and social work won't change a damn thing b/c again - it's a white face they see. And yes, if you had been in parent meetings with some parents I've met, you'd be surprised at the ignorance. Ignorance and anger go hand in hand. So what do you suggest we do? Instead of becoming angry at people who are trying to make some progress, take responsibility. I'm done. tired of the ignorance |
A banana? |
| 17:00- glad you're done, but if you're tired of the ignorance, you probably shouldn't spend too much time alone. |
