The irony of this thread is that I'm the poster at whom the "I hate the attitude that educated, sophisticated, well-traveled people are the only ones worth being around" statement was aimed. Yet I do not believe this (my dad, among many other people I know and similar to one of the early PP's dad, is not educated or sophisticated, yet has a tremendous amount of knowledge and common sense and has taught me so much). There was nothing in my post that states or implies that certain people are better than others - that is totally inferred by others. I was merely trying to set out points for the OP to consider - points based on what friends who have moved out of D.C. have told me about their experiences.

My child can walk. I'm confused by your assertion that I'm failing my child by choosing a lower paying job that I love. A lot of people in this country live on less. Do you fault those who can't earn more and decide to have children? I can't imagine working 60 or 70 hours a week at a law firm and still managing my parenting duties. I suppose we all have different priorities. |
Why didn't you loan your friend the money for physical therapy? |
| This thread is soooo condescending. *vomits* |

^^ This.
I immediately thought of Marx and the bourgeoisie "proletariats" sitting around discussing the revolution whilst drinking champagne. |
Wow, I guess a high IQ = insufferable with attitude. I find it hard to believe anything, including your job, gives you great joy. |

How to be happy. How to detect misery and stay AWAY from it. How some people will never be happy (a la D.C.: those who attempt to take the next guy down to make themselves look better, but fail to realize that they only look worse by their own action) and it is not your problem. How to avoid social climbers and/or users and gravitate toward those who are truly self sufficient, willing and able. ITA with PP about certain people being lazy. They are leaches. AVOID. How to do for yourself and surround yourself with positive. How to (almost too effectively) not get mad, but instead get even. When the offender least expects it. Multifold. See line one. |
Have you never read a DCUM discussion on IQs? It draws as many nice, sane posters as the threads on extended breastfeeding. I'm not playing that game. |
PP, you sound like a really nice person. Are you, by any chance, Christian? |
| I'm from a poor, small town in the middle of nowhere, and what I have learned is that people are all the same. |

Because I didn't know her at the time. And why should I? I should work 50 hours a week in a high paid job so she can take a lower paid job and have less stress? There are pros and cons to every choice. |

My secretary makes 66K and she can certainly manage her parenting duties even while working 40 hours a week. Do you live in the DC metro area, or someplace much cheaper? |
It's not that I'm proud of my income. I'm just not ashamed or unhappy with my choice, which is what you seem to expect. I have no desire to apologize to you, the random internet stranger, for my choices in life. My original post was to point out that some of the assumptions about us lower income folks can be flat out wrong. I live and work in the DC metro area. |
Having a high IQ doesn't always mean having common sense. |
