Depends. Part of being green is being reasonable about consumption. Having more than you need is not really green. Heating/cooling rooms no one is in, or even whole floors full of big rooms, isn't green even in a relatively efficient home.

thank you Green Police. there is plenty of oil, thanks.

It is just me, my husband, my toddler, baby on the way and large dog, so we definitely don't "need" this much house BUT we use it all and I love it - NO clutter. We have a large kitchen, dining room, a nice spacious living room, a play area all on the first floor, then each kid gets his own room (I am not opposed to sharing though), my husband and I each have our own office, we have a room just for storage, a guest bedroom, etc. It definitely costs a lot of maintain, furnish, decorate, so I can see it not being for everyone, but we are home a lot and it is worth it to us.

No regrets here. It's 3600 sq ft., energy efficient, close to work, great schools.

The square footage is in all the right places for the way we live -- large, open kitchen and family room where we spend most of our family time together, plus great mudroom/storage area, first floor office and normal sized bedrooms (not cramped but not wasteful).

As for furnishing it, we had much of what we needed from our previous home, and then we added to that gradually. Cleaning isn't an issue. You have to clean no matter what. The extra square footage really doesn't add much additional time.

Oh you mean women are allowed to work these days? They can go out of the house with shoes on and drive a car? During regular hours, not just special hours?

Usually unhappy clients find other lawyers.

DH and I have worked various jobs along the Dulles corridor for the last 12 years and have never once had to take a job inside the beltway. Our commutes have ranged from 10min-30 min. All I see out here is more and more businesses coming and can't see why we would ever commute. Its great because housing is more affordable and the jobs pay well. Our quality if life land housing options leaves nothing more to be desired.

But you're in Virginia, therefore your opinions are invalid.
