Does seeing a spelling or grammatical error in the title of a post reduce its credibility for you?

I don't get the "common sense" either.

I'm guessing you don't get a lot of things in life.

A troll, just daring us to find a grammatical or other problem in her post! Yawn.

Poor troll, no one got her joke. Therefore, we must be missing out on life. Now I'm sad.

I don't think it's too much to expect people to proof their thread titles. I can understand if they don't have time or energy to proof their 2 paragraphs of text.

Are you 99% of DCUM? Then you should limit your argument to what you know is true. Otherwise, your entire argument fails as lacking proper foundation. And it makes you look ignorant and juvenile ("everyone's doing it"). That aside, I totally agree that trolls can be led off by a post directing them in a different direction. Try it. Works like a charm. When it's well done, it's rather genius.

This. I rather enjoy watching somebody lead a troll off with a grammar point or some other diversion.

U troll for trolls, so you can troll? Who is the troll?

Ignoring morons like 13:03 also works. Let's all try it, now.

Sometimes, but I offer my advise anyway.

And I'm sure they appreciate your advice.

Nice job killing PP's joke. She obviously used "advise" in place of "advice" on purpose, as it is so frequently used incorrectly on these boards.

Seriously. This was my joke and you ruined my moment. You are the devil.

Nope, not at all. Have you ever tried typing on a smartphone/iPod Touch? It's tough not to make spelling errors. And, I'm normally a good speller.

Awww, some of us got it before it was explained to us.

"Prescriptive grammar has very little to do with maintaining the clarity and precision of the language. What it really has to do with is maintaining the dominance of the upper classes and enforcing social norms. It used to be that only the wealthy had access to the kind of education that would provide knowledge of the particular type of English enshrined in the prescriptive standard, so discriminating against people who did not command this type of English helped to preserve class distinctions and to keep the lower classes in their place by making them believe that because they spoke differently they were inferior. This isn't as true as it once was, but the idea persists. Prescriptive grammar is a tool of the kleptocracy."

It does for me, instantaneously. There it is, and no, I can't help it.

I totally agree.

Anonymous wrote:Typo, no. (Such as "do" in place of "so", "teh", that sort of thing. It happens to all of us.) Grammatical error, ("recommend you're toy kitchen!", the aforementioned SAHM's) yes, absolutely.

This is how I feel, too. I type "ot" for "to" more often than not.

Funny you should write this post and say "Yay or nay!" which in itself is an error. It should be "Yea or nay." No I don't really care. People get rushed, it happens. I'm not perfect either.
