Not comfortable with Halloween

Haven't celebrated Halloween since childhood. My kids (4) don't go trick-or-treating either. We're Christian, but mainly we don't celebrate....just because. We now attend church and for Halloween, we take the kids to a pumpkin patch for a Harvest outing....we then do video games, board games, etc at church and there's candy there for the kids to take. No one misses the dressing up thing at all. Perhaps it's a suburban thing? We live in/near DC and I almost never see anyone out trick-or-treating.

Any school is now required to have alternate activities for students who are not allowed to participate in the Halloween party. It's not like that for Valentine's Day.

I think there should be alternate activities for Valentines Day. All this same sex marriage talk is coming from the early years when same gender children exchange valentine cards.

Ground Hog's Day is another BIG problem. Humans are on the top of the food chain and should not be making predictions based on the actions of a lessor varmit species.

St Patrick Day's is a celebration of alcohol which in this age of addiction and poor self control is the wrong message to send. Don't get me started on the evil little leprechauns that wantonly violate no shoe rules leaving footprints around.

These holidays have all become excuses for fat people to buy super sized cupcakes with a pound of frosting in the hopes of making your kids fat like them.

We live in DC, and our neighborhood is full of trick-or-treaters every year.

OP, my sister became a fundamentalist once she married/had kids. They did not celebrate Halloween for years because of its pagan origins. Eventually, she chilled out and realized it was the same harmless secular holiday that she grew up with. Now her kids celebrate it.

As a mom to boys I LOVE the Gore and horror of Halloween and as my boys get older they love it more and more Gory each time. We are Christian as well, but definitly not anti-fun.

Wow, you're being quite testy. You said that you're Protestant but didn't specify. My aunt is Lutheran and I know for sure she believes in transformation - that you're eAting the body and drinking blood.
