I must say I find it interesting to find out about all the variations of it around the world. My first thought on seeing it was to automatically think of it as a Hawaiian name.
Learned something new today. |
Kai doesn't sound masculine. |
Will he be the Last of the Brunnen-G? |
Know a Kai who's 6 and his Dad is Indian. Very cool name. I also wear Kai perfume. My fav! |
i knew a guy with that name. He was very sexy. |
If you want to get creative, you can switch the letters and name your son Kia |
You don't have to switch the letters for Kia. My son is a Kai and it is kind of surprising how many people carefully look at the name and then pronounce it "Kee-ah." |
How do you pronounce Kai? Kay or does it rhyme with 'my'? |
Jennifer Connolly |
Kai rhymes with my. |
i think of it as a German name (male) - not one of my favorites, since you asked |
I love it, but FYI it seems to be trending a bit around here. I know at least 2 boys under age 3 named Kai. I still love it though, and would consider it if I were having a boy. |
I found this while doing a google search for the exact same question.. I love the name Kai! I'm considering naming our son Kai, but wanted to get other's opinions first. My husband surfs, and we love the meaning of the name and that it doesn't seem to be too common here in Florida.
If we are blessed with a girl later on we'll name her Ava. |
I think of the shoe See Kai Run. Very exotic, like Keanu. I would think it odd if you weren't exotic yourself, as in Hawaiian or at least foreign. |
How timely. My one year old Kai (male) just turned 1. His father is Asian, (but not Hawaiian), we just liked it. I've never known a female Kai. I do know one other Kai, who is a blond haired blue eyed boy... I think his parents are of Northern European descent, but I'm not sure.
Now, if I'd named him "Sally", I might have been worried about him getting his butt kicked at school. But the thought never even crossed my mind with "Kai". Some people do struggle with it though... More than one doctor's office receptionist has tried to pronounce it "Kay"... but I think that is mostly because so many parents are trying to be different with some "unique" spelling of their kid's name, that just to be unique they change their daughter's name from Kay to Kai. Or perhaps they're just reacting to the numerous girls and boys who used to be Brittany, Andy, Brandy, Mandy and are now Brittani, Andi, Brandi and Mandi. Whatever. OP, do what you want. If you like it, go for it. |
