Ummm truly intelligent people don't measure themselves by these tests and scores as they tend to be too busy with their passions: math olympics, science competitions, playing as a member of their city's Symphony, writing satire for their school's underground press or just keeping their head down while just dying for HS to end so that they can go somewhere stimulating( if they didn't already leave for MIT or some other university when they were 15 ), etc....A gifted mind is usually unimpressed with such crass obsessions. There were 10 National Merit Winners in my senior class( non- DMV public , non-magnet public school) and 20 Finalists, NONE of them went around comparing themselves to others based on their scores. No one even knew that they had won this honor until we saw the very small asterix next to their names in the Commencement program. That is as it should be. And I agree w/ Sam2: what are you doing on a website created by 40 year old women so that they could chat about child rearing ON A FRIDAY NIGHT or any night for that matter???? |
| Really? You agree with SAM2's comments to this child? I think both of you should have something better to do than bait and insult a child and encourage him to break the law, whether you think he should be on this board or not. Both of you should grow up. |
This in and of itself would keep me out in my trashy, tacky, conservative exurb cocoon. Who f**ing cares????? |
Considering that you took the time to comment on this thread on your Sunday, obviously YOU care. LOL!

I just had to respond. I was trying to ellicit comments! I actually am interested in the psychology of people who fawn over those in position of power. Using their children to gain access to these people. EEWWW! My MIL taught in a DC private school and the stories of people sucking up were hilarious. |
Do you really think people send their kids to Sidwell hoping to get friendly with the Obamas? Woman, please! |
| you'd be way better off giving the 30,000 you'd pay in tuition to the DNC. |
| I am partial to Blair in Silver Spring because Sylvester Stallone, Goldie Hawn and Ben Stein attended. |
| My kids go to Sidwell, and, yes, there certainly are people who send their kids to Sidwell at least partly because they hope -- or fantasize might be more appropriate -- that their kids will become friends with the Obamas. Obviously, most people don't fall into this camp -- or at least recognize the humor in this fantasy -- but, yes, absolutely there are parents like that at Sidwell. It's simply an extension of the idea that if you send your kids to Sidwell, or any other marquee-name school, they -- and you -- will make contacts that will lead them down the yellow-brick road to fame and success. Personally, this kind of social-climbing makes me gag, but Sidwell is hardly the only institution that harbors folks who think along these lines. |
| Based on the current string of threads, it's clear that the obsession is growing... |
The sure-fire way to get in good graces with high-powered politicians (and even the potus) is to give 30k a year to the DNC (or the RNC, depending on what floats your boat).

| I was fortunate enough to be a "day student" at Phillips Andover. And, trust me, Sidwell is nothing by comparison. All of the DC private schools pale in comparison to the MA and NY boarding/day school circuit. Sidwell is the only school that can play with those big leaguers. |
Jackass. |
Hahahah, as much as I hate to admit it, this poster it absolutely correct. Those other schools, e.g., Andover/Exeter/Choate/Groton/Bronx Sci, etc., make us DC "elite" look like chump change. Puts things in perspective! |
