Private & Independent Schools
| Please read in on the history of Landon school's issues before you make a choice. |
| True Liberals/Democrats do not judge other people, nor do they condemn certain lifestyles, that is the domain of Conservatives/Republicans. Its no accident that the religious right gives money to the Republican party, it follows their social agenda which condemns anyone who does not live their life according to their principles. |
And where does the religious left give their money? I'm so glad and relieved to hear that "True Liberals/Democrats" don't judge other people (I'm assuming that you include yourself in that tolerant group? Very reassuring! |
Years ago when interviewing at privates NO SCHOOL except Sidwell [never looked at GDS] got into my personal business. No one else gave 2 cents about anything since we present as normal people. I felt like I was in an alternate universe. |
| Not sure if it's totally deserved but whether you are conservative or liberal, people who are not part of the Landon community are often critical of the school. That should change over time. |
|
Unfortunately there is a poster who is a Landon hater and uses almost every private school thread to bash the school.
|
| I don't hate Landon. My only knowledge of Landon comes from what I read in the newpapers, magazines and sites like this. |
| So you feel free to bash a school that you never have taken the time to visit or see what goes on at the school or talk to people whose children go there. |
| Why mention Landon on this thread other than to make a gratuitous slam? I don't have a kid there but I know it's not the most conservative school in the area. I would bet that The Heights is. |
The OP specified no Catholic schools. While I do think that a non-Catholic child can have a good experience at many of the area Catholic schools (Gonzaga, and St. Anselms for example), I think the religious element at the Heights is pretty hard to escape. |
Not to mention Richard Nixon's girls! Oh wait, but he was a Friend... |
The political "liberal" people who adhere to a particular faith generally contain their ideas about religion and lifestyle choices to themselves and their own houses of worship, like the Episcopalians who openly welcome gay members and pastors in their ranks as well as bless such unions (just one example). Typically only right wing religious fanatics (whether Christian or Muslim or whatever) try to force others to follow what they can a "one true fraith." In this country, members of the most conservative versions of Christianity back the Republican Party. This has caused some older Republicans and Reagan-style Republicans to question their own party agenda but, it remains to be seen which faction will ultimately win control. |
| too bad you aren't up for catholic school bc the most conservative schools in the area are opus dei schools like mater dei, the heights and oakcrest. I went to HR and AHC in Kensington and thought they were conservative --- but all the uber-conservative families in K-town send their kids to the heights and oakcrest. personally I'm a bleeding heart liberal, but I haven't noticed conservative families being treated differently at catholic schools in the area fwiw. |
|
The most conservative/republican families I know go to St. Patrick's and Concord Hill.

Mater Dei is not Opus Dei. Love the people on this site that provide false information. |
