I had two kids at Marshall. Individual Marshall kids can still do quite well. In the aggregate, the admissions won’t be as impressive as Langley, McLean, and Madison, which draw from wealthier and more savvy communities.
If Marshall had 30+ kids heading to UVA, my guess is that Jeff Litz would be making sure that got displayed on the school’s electronic billboard on Leesburg Pike. Litz, like Jay Pearson before him, has been a relentless promoter of “good news” at the school. |
| My kid is a humanities kid through and through and would like to attend a SLAC vs a big school. Not sure about posting on Insta. |
Honestly I know someone whose DD did that and is not transferring to UVA after 2 years (kid was academically motivated in HS). Not everyone has saved 160k per kid for state tuition. And yes, with this economy paying as you go is much harder. The fact some DCUMers can’t grasp this fact is telling. |
If you go back and look at the OP they allowed for the possibility that economics could account for some of Marshall’s less impressive results compared to nearby schools. |
Yes and I was replying to the PP who said many Madison honors kids are going to NOVA. Also, My guess is the kids in more well off schools might not be adverting they aren’t going to flashy schools that on Insta? Idk. |
Op here, thank you for noticing that I threw out a variety of possible explanations (also recognizing that it could be a combo) and wanted to hear people’s thoughts. Interesting perspective on IB credit at VA Tech vs UVA a bit back.
Since this thread has Marshall parents—I think in other countries, they apply with their predicted/expected IB score. Do they do that too in the U.S. and how do they know the predicted/expected score? (Since they don’t take exams till end of sr year) |
Is that a typo? Should it be now transferring? |
Yes now transferring |
