| This is a stupid question OP. If your kid is a high performing kid, it doesn't matter. If you kid ended up as a low performing kid, this doesn't matter either. |
This is a stupid comment. There are plenty of kids in between where their state flagship(s) is the best school they get into, and cheaper than private options unless they aim for schools much further down the list. |
So odd that you list UVA but not the other college. |
I live in Maryland highly disagree. |
Not really. Doesn't want to divulge too much info. Pretty typical on DCUM. |
Maryland also has free dual enrollment at community college and UMD/UMBC. Ohio public schools are generally not great. I live in Maryland and wouldn't move to VA just for college choices. It's too early to predict what path they are going to take. My friend moved to VA for that reason and their kid ended up at Georgia Tech. |
| Well I am a 5th generation Virginian so I am biased but I don’t see the point of living in MD or DC. Not just for this but many other reasons. |
+1 Completely agree. |
People like this are why I’ve never been tempted to move to Virginia. Just imagine, your child could spend their entire life as an outsider, never accepted in their home town because their great-great-grandparents weren’t from Virginia! |
Why? I’m Virginian. My youngest child will be attending UVA, so I need to stay here. Otherwise, I’d prefer to live in DC. I like walkable neighborhoods with lots of amenities and nearby Metro stations, but there are pretty limited options for that in Virginia. |
| Yes I am proud Virginian, born and bred in the Old Dominion. Why would anyone want to live in Maryland? Fiddle dee dee. |
Weird way to read my post. I didn’t say that at all. I was merely disclosing my bias that I obviously like Virginia. I grew up near Richmond not here, but I honestly don’t understand the benefits of choosing MD or DC to live if your job requires you to be in this area. My DH (not from Virginia) agreed with me so it works for us. Our friends in DC and MD are all paying way more for college than we are, and also dealing with the logistics of kids much farther away. |
| Folks, MD colleges just suck. It’s okay, really. |
