These people are frequently stewards of trusts. We've had 2 other threads recently (the less well off spouse who married a trust fund person who is not entitled to any of that trust, and the why are people so obsessed with generational wealth) where we see how money is being passed down from generation to generation. This money frequently runs out unless someone in the newer generation has the ability to keep managing/adding to it. Also, remember, whoever bought the big house on the "certain street in certain zip codes" were once upon a time showing off their wealth. That they aren't any longer circles back to either the money is running out or they have switched to preservation of generational wealth mode. |
| I think the correct notion is that not every wealthy person likes to show it off to and announce it to the general public. Rich people also just buy what they want to. Maybe they don’t care about cars but spend bucket loads of money on travel, clothes, and rich people hobbies. |
Imagine trying to zing a stranger online and getting all your information incorrect how embarrassing! Maybe stop the day drinking Marge! |
It is unsurprising that the people who choose to join a stuffy country club also buy expensive cars. |
I take it reading comprehension isn't your strong suit. You clearly have no idea what PP was responding to. You people. |
Agreed, there is no blanket truth to anything in this thread. People are complex. People make different choices in terms of how they decide to spend their money. |
| A new car is a bad investment. An overpriced car is silly. Wealthy know this. |
| A relative of mine ran car dealerships (including Subaru) and apparently lots of wealthy people buy Subarus in cash around here. |
But you can drive a used, reasonably priced luxury car and enjoy it. |
🤣😂😂Oh honey, drive to the closest county housing complex by your house. |
Are you 95? Who joins country clubs anymore! |
But people who care about cars don't buy Land Rovers. Tata, the Indian company that owns Land Rover, knows exactly who they are selling to. |
I'm aware, a failed academic wrote that book. Dave Ramsey pushes his own and these other scam books on listeners. Millionaire Next Door, Rich Dad Poor Dad, etc. All nonsense pushed on rubes and hicks. |

The 25-year-old Volvo may be a beautifully maintained classic in today’s world. But basic new luxury cars have zero cachet.
