It depends on the type of rich. The old money country club types - the ones that live on certain streets in certain zip codes in old homes and have used the same private schools for generations - those types do not drive new luxury brand SUVs. They drive used ones, older ones, Jeeps, Fords, Volvo wagons, etc. Driving a new black Range Rover or BMW is gauche to them.
These people are frequently stewards of trusts. We've had 2 other threads recently (the less well off spouse who married a trust fund person who is not entitled to any of that trust, and the why are people so obsessed with generational wealth) where we see how money is being passed down from generation to generation. This money frequently runs out unless someone in the newer generation has the ability to keep managing/adding to it. Also, remember, whoever bought the big house on the "certain street in certain zip codes" were once upon a time showing off their wealth. That they aren't any longer circles back to either the money is running out or they have switched to preservation of generational wealth mode.
