+1 They should have went on the air and said we have some sad news to report. No lead in, drum up of business is necessary at all. |
People were posting fake obituaries of Scott linked to spammy pages. There was also a lot of speculation that Elliot had gotten fired. It's totally fair to give a social media update saying when to tune in to find out what's happening with the show. Also just because they are off air this week doesn't mean the team is off work. I'm sure they are spending time meeting and planning for how to come back without Diane. Diane is a treasure and I wish her peace and healing at this sad time. I hope she'll make the decision to come back when she's ready, but will respect whatever she chooses. |
NP, get real, of course it was. |
"It's totally fair to give a social media update saying when to tune in to find out what's happening with the show." Do you hear yourself? The social media update should have been the actual news not "tune in on tuesday for an update." This is hyped up. |
+1 Totally unnecessary. |
They wanted to pay tribute to their friend and colleague's husband. If you hate them so much, just dont listen to the show and move on from this thread. They way they handled things was appropriate. If they cared about "hype", they'd have been back on air all week and heading to Vegas this weekend saying it was a toast to Scott. They are doing their best in a tough situation. |
I agree. |

I have been listening since 1999 when the show started.
The person who died, Scott, was the husband of one of the main people the show, Diane. Diane is a Gen X er like me and she loves music, deals w Elliot in a funny way, and has a daughter the same age as mine. She feels like a friend. It was not a “gimmick” to tell people to tune in at 7 on Tuesday. It was a heartfelt 10 minute announcement and the only live broadcast during EITM this week. If you heard the announcement, it was well handled. I don’t know how else they’re supposed to share that Diane is not going to be around for a while, when the news was already out there. The whole group of close friends is devastated and we can just extend them some empathy. |
| I also preferred that they talked about Scott's passing on air instead of writing a social media post. |
