What is VOLT AI?

You sound like you’re 90 years old. “Boy, you better get yerself straight fore the law comes up after ‘ya!”

And what is your solution?

It’s ridiculous to have a more advanced weapon detector than airport. I hope some journalist is interested in digging more, especially this procurement doesn’t appear on BOE approval list.

It's not more advanced than airport scanners

And false positives and failures to detect true positives. This is why they’re not used that much at airports.

Out kids are not Guinea pigs.

This is an attempt to try something—definitely better than doing nothing and just asking parents to be more aware and having more school counselors. Nothing negative is being done to our kids by using this. It is a trial to see if it is helpful for the safety of the schools, nothing will be perfect but this is definitely better than what we have now….

Even if you believe that, the trial should have been proposed, debated and voted on. Not just decided upon in a backdoor deal with Taylor and Jones.

Nope. It's a trial. They would propose, debate and vote on it if they decide to go with it.

Contract is already signed.

When was the pilot discussed?

Why are parents required to discuss every school purchase? File a CFP if it concerns you.

Pilots don't need to be discussed. Discussions come after.

Did anyone explain to families what exactly this is? Where is the recording of the meetings at the various schools who will pilot this system?

The second post in this thread is a link to a story about how an SRO and MCPD misused a similar system and used it as an excuse to assault and unlawfully imprison a child.

Not really. It was clear that MCPS lacks familiarity with AI based systems and has not been able to address questions or concerns about privacy.

That’s not true at all. MCPS clearly has no understanding of how AI works and has not addressed the related privacy and security issues of using an AI based system at all. Their responses to parent’s questions about privacy have been flimsy, at best, and imply that MCPS does not know what it’s getting in to.

I can't believe that parents and students aren't up in arms about VOLT AI. If I were a kid I would be organizing student walkouts.

Yes, it's expensive, but I would prefer metal detectors like Jackson-Reed has.

It is appalling. They have no f idea what they are doing, do they? And there is no recording of what they told families? Wtf?
